今日はアメリカ人のお友達とキャッチアップランチで新しいお店にトライしました。

I had a catch-up lunch with an American friend and we tried a new (to us) restaurant.

ランチの場所は、クラブストリートの近くにある Maggie Joan’s という、２人共初めてのお店です。とてもわかりにくいところにあったので、行かれる方は事前に場所の確認をされておく方が良いと思います。住所はAmoy Streetなのですが入り口は裏にあり、表には何も書かれていないのでうろうろしました。

The restaurant we treid is “Maggie Joan’s” near Club Street.  Their address is 110 Amoy Street but when you get there it has a name of some office and no mention of the restaurant.  The entrance to the restaurant is actually on the back of the building so it’s hard to find unless you know it.

ランチセットはなくアラカルトで、それぞれのコース３、４種類ずつしかなく、品数がとても少ないです。メインはお魚かラムかビーフで、ビーフは１品で４４ドルとランチのメインとしては高額でしたし美味しいビーフはシンガポールではなかなかないのでわたしは前菜を２品いただくことにしました。パンはついてこないとのことだったので少し足りないかもとパンをオーダーしてシェアーしたのですが、来たのはフムス付きの１品料理でした。パンは熱々で美味しかったですが、フムスはちょっと塩辛かったです。

There was no lunch set menu and it was a la carte, quite a small menu.  Just a few choices for each course.  The main course choices were lamb, fish or beef (and it was S$44!) and as I was disappointed with beef the other day again I didn’t want to try it – so I had 2 starters. I thought it may not be enough so ordered bread (because one of the dishes come with bread) and shared.  I thought I ordered bread but it came with hummus…The bread was very nice but I thought the hummus was too salty.

１品目は、トマト、プラム、ブラタチーズ。ソースは多分ブラックオリーブとハーブなどを混ぜたもの。盛り付けも綺麗ですしとても美味しかったです。

For the 1st dish, I had “Tomato, Plum & Burrata”.  It looked very pretty.  The sauce was, I think, black olives and some herb.  It was very nice and I enjoyed it very much.

お友達は前菜にスォードフィッシュのタルタルをオーダーされました。

My friend had Swardfish Tartar for a starter.

もう１品は、フォアグラと洋梨。こちらはちょっと好みではなかった。

For the 2nd dish, I had Foie Gras (came with pear).  It was just OK, not really one of the best foie gras I’ve had.

この後２人ともレモンジンジャーティー（ティーバッグなのは承知でオーダーしましたが、あまりレモンの味もジンジャーの味もしなくてがっかり）を飲んでおしゃべりの続き。

Then we had Lemon Ginger tea.  I wonder if they used too much water, we couldn’t taste much of lemon or ginger, it was much too weak.

今日は遅めのスタートだったのですが。丁度出かける用意をしている頃に豪雨になってしまいました。これではタクシーがつかまらないかも、どうしたものかと思いご一緒したお友達にメッセージしてみたら、丁度今タクシーで出るところだからピックアップしましょうかと言っていただきそうしていただいて助かりました。でもスコッツロードのあたりが激混みだったそうで、ノベナから普段なら１０分もかからないはずの家までの距離に４０分くらいかかりました。でも、帰るころにはやんでいて良かったです。

Our lunch was going to be a late start anyway but just when I was getting ready to go out very heavy rain started.  I wasn’t sure if I would be able to get a taxi so I sent a message to my friend and she offered to pick me up by the taxi she was taking – very lucky for me.  It took her about 40 minutes from Novena to my place (which usually takes less than 10 minutes) though.  I was glad it more or less stopped raining by the time we finished our lunch.

レストランはおしゃれな感じで盛り付けもきれいで美味しいと思いましたし、サービスの女性も親切で感じが良かったです。ただ、ご一緒したお友達も言っておられたように最近どこのレストランに行っても思うのですが、音楽の音がうるさくて、お客さんの１組が大きな声で話しておられたこともあってお話がしずらかったです。もう少し音量を下げてくださるようお友達が頼んでくださり、お店の方も嫌な顔をせず一度下げてくださったのですが、いつの間にかまた上がっていて（笑）再びお願い。音楽がうるさいと話をするのが大変です、なぜあんなに大音響にするのでしょう。それと、これも最近のお店に多いのですが、メニューの品数が極端に少ないのでわたしはほとんどチョイスがないですし、普通になんでも召し上がれる方でもあまり選ぶ楽しみがありません。それにしてはお得というほどお安いわけでもない。毎日メニューが変わらない限り続けては行いけないですね。

The restaurant looked nice and trendy, the presentation was very trendy and beautiful and they tasted good.  The service was also good.  One complain is that, like many others, they play music much too loud and it’s so hard to talk.  We asked them to turn down the music and they did up to certain degree but it was still quite loud.  The other problem is that their menu is so small.

パンを別オーダーしたのとお茶もいただいたので（お水は普通のサービスのお水）、２人で１０８ドルほどと、特別高くはないけれど安くはない金額で、わたしはフォアグラをいただいたので前菜２品でしたが６０ドルちょっとと結構なお値段になってしまいました。

悪くはないけど、是非また行きたいということもないかな〜、という感じでしょうか。トマトの前菜はとても美味しかったので、もう１品同じくらい美味しいものを食べていたらまた行きたいと思ったかも。

With bread (and hummus that came with it) and tea (but no bottled water), it came up to S$108 for 2 of us.  I think it was a little over S$60 for me because I had foie gras.  It was good but I’m not sure if I’m rushing back with such a small menu.

お友達とのキャッチアップ、楽しかったです。いつもお忙しそうで話題もたくさんあって何時間話しても話題に事欠かず、情報通。行きたいところ、やりたいことがどんなに時間があっても足りない、という感じの方。いつもたくさんの刺激をいただきます。

It was lovely to see my friend.  She tells me so many things whenever we get together – where she’s been to, where she is going to be, things she’s been doing… all sorts of interesting subjects to talk about and informations to get.  Very inspiring.
