今日は、久しぶりにお目にかかるお友達とランチをご一緒しました。お１人とは２ヶ月ほど前におめにかかりましたが、もうお１人とは多分半年ぶりくらいでしょうか。このところあまり外出していないので、お友達とは大抵「久しぶり」になるのですが。
I had lunch with 2 friends that I hadn’t seen for a while. I haven’t been out very often since I got back from Japan so there are quite a few friends I hadn’t seen for the last few months.
場所は、３人とも行ったことがない「999.99(Fine Nines)」というお店にトライ。お店はかなりダークで、素敵でしたが、バーのような雰囲気でした。素敵だったので写真を撮ろうと思っていたのですが、お友達と話しているうちに忘れてしまいました。今日は一眼レフを持っていくのを忘れてしまったので、iPhoneの写真です。
We tried a restaurant called “999.99” (Fine Nines), which is relatively new and one of us have been to. The restaurant was quite dark and looked more like a bar than a restaurant but quite nicely done. Sadly I forgot to take photos of the interior.
メニューを見ながらお友達と「ここ、コスパが良いってよく書かれているけど、特に美味しいっていうのはあまり聞かないね」とちょっと不安に（笑）。
While we were trying to decide what to order, we were saying “I’ve seen many reviews that said the cost performance is very good but haven’t really read it’s specially good”, which sort of worried us a little. The menu was very small and I particularly couldn’t find anything that attracted me. I really had no choice but 2 – beef stew or strip loin steak. Both quite risky for me because I find beef in Singapore can be too gamey for me in many restaurants.
シンガポールでステーキをオーダーするのはリスキーなのですが（お肉が臭いことが比較的多くて食べられないことがあるので）、あまりチョイスがなかったのでストリップサーロインをオーダーしてみました。もうお１人のお友達も同じもの。幸い、臭みはなかったのでいただけました。お値段がお値段なので(S$29 ++)すごく美味しいお肉ということではないですが、普通にいただけました。サラダはゆず風味のドレッシングでした。ポテトも美味しかったです。
I thought perhaps steak is less risky and ordered strip loin steak. It was fine. Not that it was specially good or tasty because it’s not very expensive but it wasn’t gamey. The salad had Yuzu dressing on, the fried potatoes were quite nice. One of the friends also had the same.
もうお１人は、ビーフシチュー(S$23 ++)。わたしもステーキと迷ったのですが、シチューも臭みがあるときがあるのでステーキの方が無難かな、と。でも、美味しかったとおっしゃっていました。ただ、シチューはパンがないと食べられないよねということでパンを追加オーダーされたのですが、シチューが来たら、こんなことになっていて。。。パンたっぷり（笑）。パンはシェアーしましょうと言ってはいましたが、シチューをオーダーされた方がオーダーされたので、注文をとった方が「シチューはパンがついていますよ」と言ってくださると良かったのですが。
The other friend ordered beef stew and she said it was very nice. The only thing is that she ordered bread on the side – but when the stew arrived it was in bread and had quite a few pieces of bread on the plate as well. I feel that the staff should have told her that she will get bread with the beef stew.
１切れいただきましたが、サイドオーダーのパンはぱさついていてあまり美味しくなかったです。残念。
So, here is the side bread. I had a piece but it was very dry and not very good. We really didn’t need it.
ステーキの方が６ドル高いことを忘れて普通に３等分してしまい、１人３６ドルでした。シチューを召し上がったお友達、ごめんなさい！
確かにコスパは良いですね。シェフは日本人とのことなので応援したい気持ちはありますが、わたしには食べられるものが少なすぎてまた行きたいとは思えないかな。何でもいただける方ならいいですね。わたしは、事前にメニューをチェックしていただけそうなものがあれば、という感じでしょうか。
We forgot that the stew was quite less expensive (S$6 less) than the steak and paid S$36 each. I agree that the cost performance is very good because it’s not easy to eat in a nice restaurant without paying S$40 here. I’ve read that the chef is Japanese so I feel like giving some support. However, for me, the menu is just too small because I have things that I cannot eat. If you are one of those people who can eat most things, perhaps it’s worth going there.
ちょうどわたしの真後ろの席で日本の女性がお２人お食事をされていたので、なんとなく話しにくく（日本では隣の会話が聞こえるのは当たり前ですし気にもならないと思うのですが、ここは日本人社会が狭く、聞かれて悪いことでなくてもなんとなくお互い気になります）、お友達がこの後行ってみたいカフェがあるとのことでしたので、ここはさくっと切り上げてそちらに向かうことにしました。
We didn’t linger here very long because there were a couple of Japanese ladies right behind me and we feel a little unc0mfortable with chat when we know someone else might hear our conversation. It’s not that we are talking about something we shouldn’t, it’s just that we feel we want more privacy. The Japanese society in Singapore is so small, it makes you feel more concious of these things.
Anyway, there was a cafe one of the friends wanted try so we decided to go there and have a dessert and tea.
