エジンバラ５日目。夫の弟夫婦と電車に乗ってエジンバラまで行き、エジンバラからは別行動。２人は美術館巡り、わたしと夫はショッピングの合間に「Browns」でランチ。Brownsは英国中にあるチェーン店ですが、比較的きちんとしたレストランで雰囲気は悪くないです。
The 5th day in Edinburgh. We took a train with my husband’s brother and his wife into Edinburgh Waverley station, then we separated. They were going to visit some galleries and we mostly did shopping. In between shopping, we had lunch at “Browns”. Browns is a chain restaurant all over in the UK. Inside looked very nice.
軽くサンドイッチでもと思っていましたがメニューになく、ランチセットにしました。
I was thinking of a sandwich but couldn’t find what I wanted, so we both had their set lunch.
夫の前菜は、フィッシュケーキ。
My husband chose fish cake for a starter.
わたしの前菜は、ビーツ（シュレッドしたものを固めて上下を焼いてありました）、アボカド、ポーチドエッグ。結構美味しかったです。
I had beets, avocado and a poached egg, which was nice.
夫のメインは、ステーキフリット。
For the main my husband had Steak Frites.
わたしは、トマトリゾット、というものをオーダーして見ました。リゾットというよりおじやを固めたような食感で、リゾットとは呼べないですね。味はその名の通りトマト味で美味しかったです。
I had tomato risotto. You can see the texture is completely wrong, not really risotto, much too thick and claggy, but it tasted quite good.
ランチとショッピングの後、ナショナルスコティッシュギャラリーに寄ってからいくつかのお部屋で絵を見て、借りていた家に戻りました。
After a bit more shopping, we had a short visit to the Scottish National Gallery, then took a train home.
ちょうど４時のお茶の時間くらいに戻ったので、お庭でクランペットとお茶をいただきました。この日も良いお天気で、暑い１日でした。（暑いと言っても先日までの英国でのヒートウェーブと違って２４度くらいでしたし、日陰に入れば肌寒いくらいでした。）
We arrived home around 4.00pm, so had tea and crumpets in the garden. It was another sunny and hot day, but cool in the shade.
借りているお家のことを書いたときに書き忘れましたが、お庭で鶏を飼っておられて（わたしは朝食を食べないのでいただきませんでしたが）毎日生みたての卵がありました。いくつかの種類の鶏が全部で７羽。暑い時や雨が酷かったときは木陰で固まってました。敷地内に息子さんが住まれていて、多分餌をあげたり、夜は囲ってあるところに移動させたりされていたのだと思います。
I forgot to mention when I wrote about the house we rented but they have chickens in their garden – I think there were 7 of them altogether – and you could have fresh eggs every day. They wandered all over the garden but when it was hot or heavily raining they were all huddled under some shrubs. I think the son of the owner, who lives on the site, looks after them by feeding them and putting them in the hen house at night.
