２、３週間前のことですが、夫と新しいタパスのお店「Tapas Club」に行ってみました。

A few weeks ago, we tried a new restaurant “Tapas Club” in Orchard.  It opened only a couple of days before we were there.

 

 

芽キャベツのロースト。アルデンテでした。

Roasted Brussels sprouts.  It was quite al dente.

パン・コン・トマテ。お塩が強すぎたのが残念。

Pan Con Tomate.  It would have tasted very nice if it weren’t so salty.

マッシュルームのコロッケ。これも結構塩分強めでした。

Mushroom croquet – it was on the salty side, again.

パンの上にチョリソーとハムときゅうりが乗ったもの。美味しかったような記憶。。。

Chorizo, ham and cucumber on bread.  I think it was quite nice.

ポテト。ソースがたっぷり過ぎて、これもわたしには塩辛かったです。

Potato.  For me it had too much sauce, so salty again.

肉団子。

Meatballs.

ここまで、味は濃いめのものが多かったですが、まぁまぁかな、な感じでした。ところが、最後にオーダーしたチュロス、低い温度で揚げたのでしょう、油をすっかり吸って思いっきり油っこくうっとなるほど。わたしは一口しか食べられず。というより、その一口も吐き出したかったです。その上、チョコレートソースはサラサラ過ぎてチュロスに絡みません。

Up to here, it was mostly too salty for me but otherwise tasted OK.  However, we ordered churros for dessert and this was one of the worst food I’ve ever had.  They must’ve used low temperature oil, the dough sucked up oil so much, it was unbearably oily.  I had just one bite and I would have taken it out of my mouth if I could, it was disgusting.  I cannot believe anybody would serve such food in a restaurant, even any amateur would not.  I guess they never try their own food.

 

最後に食べたものがこれだったので、最悪の印象になってしまいました。オープンしたばかりでスタッフの一生懸命さは伝わったのですが、レストランでこんなにひどいものを出すのはちょっと考えられません、素人でも失敗とわかるはず。ミシュランの星を獲得したシェフが関わっているというから驚きです。さすがにこれはスタッフに脂っこ過ぎて食べられないと伝えたので、改善されていることを願います。

As it had just opened, we could see the floor staff was trying very hard to please their customers but with such an ending our impression of the restaurant was very bad.  I’ve read that a chef that has a Michelin star is taking a part, how come this happens? We did let the staff know about this problem so hopefully they’ve improved it.

 

次から次へと新しいレストランがオープンしますが、安心して美味しいものをいただけるところが少なくて、悲しくなります。特別美味しいものを期待しているわけでなく、また行ってもいいなと思える程度に普通に美味しいものが食べられれば良いのですが。

So many new restaurants are opening every month here in Singapore but sadly it’s so rare when we find a restaurant that serves constantly good food.  I’m not even talking about specially delicious food, just food that we can at least enjoy enough to want to have it again.
