インド旅行１０日目まで来ました。半分を過ぎると、急に先が見えて来ました！

India Day 10.  Once I reached halfway it seems to be moving quickly.

ジャイプールはピンクシティーと呼ばれているそうです。「ピンク」の建物が多いからですが、「ピンク」と言ってもサーモンピンクというのでしょうか、かなりオレンジ寄りのピンクです。まずは、朝一で Hawaii Mahal (風の宮殿） に。

Jaipur is also called “The Pink City” because there are many ‘pink’ buildings – although it’s something like salmon pink, very orangy pink.  First we went to see “Hawaii Mahal (Palace of Wind).  We didn’t go inside, just took some photos from across the road.

路上の散髪屋さん。たくさん見かけたのですが、なかなか写真が撮れませんでした。

Outdoor Barber.  We saw many of them but it was very hard to take a photo as I saw one only from inside the car.

風の宮殿、横から見ると薄っぺらい建物です。中には入らず、道路を挟んだところから写真を撮っただけですが、上がることもできるようです。この宮殿は１７９９年に当時のラージプート族の王が宮廷の女性たちのために建てたもので、女性たちがシティーパレスから細いトンネルを通って、飾り小窓から顔を見せずに外の様子を見ることができるように設けられたものだそうです。小窓の細工は風を循環させる役目もあったとのこと。

Here is the Palace of Winds.  Very shallow building if you see from the side.  It was built in 1799 by the maharaja at the time so that the ladies (who were not supposed to show themselves in public) were able to come here from the City Palace through a narrow tunnel and look outside without being seen through the decorated windows.  Those decorations are also to oet the air come through.
