セイロン・ティー・トレイルズの宿泊料金には食事や飲み物の他に「The Tea Experience」という ホテルを所有する　Dilmah のお茶を作っている Dunkedle お茶工場の見学ツアーも無料でついています。わたしたちも到著した翌日の朝に参加しました。道はかなり悪路で、ジープにグラグラ揺られて１０分ほど。

Ceylon Tea Trails belongs to Dilmah (Tea Company) and the rate of the hotel includes meals, drinks and also “The Tea Experience”, which is a tour of Dunkeld Tea Factory (where tea leaves for Dilmah are produced).  We joined the tour in the morning of the following day after we arrived.  The road was in a very bad condition and we were taken by a jeep, I think it was about 10 minutes to the factory.

わたしたちが工場に着いてしばらくするとちょうどお茶摘みのお仕事が終わったらしく、積まれたお茶の葉を工場に運んでおられました。すごく重そう！

Soon after we got to the factory, we saw ladies carrying the tea that they picked to the factory, they looked very heavy.

工場長さん、かな？説明をしてくださいました。

The explanation of the procedures of producing tea was given.

試飲。手前の茶葉は希少価値のある白茶。後の３つは手前からグレードの良いもの、中間のもの、ティーバッグ用のもの。

Then we tasted their tea.  The closest to you in the picture is white tea, which is very rare.  The others are from the best quality tea, which is the closest of the 3, the middle quality then dust (used for tea bags).

最後に、ビスケットとお紅茶をいただいて終わり。

We then had tea with biscuits.

こちらでは、Dilmah の茶葉が販売されていますが、ホテルのブックレットにホテル内でもお茶を販売されていると書かれていたのでとりあえず２つだけ購入し、あとは少し考えてからと思っていました。ところが、ホテルで聞いてみると今はホテルでは販売していないとのこと。ブックレットの内容を変更して置いていただければ工場でもっと購入したのにと、とても残念でした。

Although they sell Dilmah’s tea here, I saw in the hotel’s booklet that we can purchase the same tea in the hotel, so we bought just a couple of different ones here and thought we’ll think more before deciding and purchasing more later.  Sadly, when we asked the butler in the hotel we were told they had stopped selling them in the hotel.  If it wasn’t written in their booklet that we can purchase there, we would have bought more at the factory.  It was such a shame.
