今日は福岡から福山のホテルに移動する日でしたが、途中下車して宮島に寄りました。新幹線で広島まで、広島から在来線です宮島口まで、そしてフェリーで宮島に、と乗り換えがありますし便数も少なく、またホテルに福山駅まで迎えに来てもらう時間が決まっていたので予定通りに行くかどうか心配でしたが、予定より早めの電車やフェリーに乗れました。

We left Fukuoka this morning to Fukuyama to stay at another hotel, but we stopped at Hiroshima to visit Miyajima on our way. To get to Miyajima you need to take Shinkansen from Hakata to Hiroshima, then change onto ordinary JR line from Hiroshima to Miyajimaguchi then a short ferry ride to Miyajima. We then had to reverse our journey and take Shinkansen from Hiroshima to Fukuyama. The trains and the ferries are not so frequent, and we had to be at Fukuyama at a certain time to be picked up by the hotel staff, so we could not make a mistake with all the connections, and it was a little stressful, but all went well. In fact we got to Miyajima a little earlier than our plan so we were able to take our time.

宮島に着いて、混み始める前に早めのランチ、広島風お好み焼き。「ももちゃん」というお店で。正直、わたしたちはやはり慣れ親しんだ関西風のお好み焼きに方が好きです。(広島ご出身に方、ごめんなさい！)

When we got to Miyajima we decided to have lunch first so the restaurant wouldn’t be very busy; we had Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki at “Momo-Chan”. To be honest we much prefer Kansai style of okonomiyaki – sorry if you are from Hiroshima.

予定より早めに着いたので、宮島でもゆっくり周れました。桜もそこそこ咲いていましたし、海の中の鳥居も楽しめました。

Sakura was out in bloom here and there, which was lovely to see, and we enjoyed seeing the Torii in the sea.

31年ぶりくらいの宮島でした。絵になるので、ついつい沢山写真を撮る撮ってしまいます。

The last time we were there was about 31 years ago. It’s very photogenic, I couldn’t help taking many photos.
