いよいよ、梱包作業が始まりました！

見積もりの時にも周りましたが、今日の担当の方ともう一度イギリスに持って行くもの、処分するものを確認しました。

We showed around the lady from the moving company telling her which ones to be shipped and which ones to be disposed, but we showed a guy today again to be sure and also to mark what will be disposed.

実は今回３社に見積もりをお願いしましたが、２社には大きなコンテナー１個、梱包と搬出に３日（（見積もり費用もほぼ同じ）と言われ、１社（クラウン）には大きなコンテナー１個と小さなコンテナー１個、梱包と搬出に４日（当然かかる費用もずっと高い）と言われました。香港からシンガポールに来た時は大きなコンテナーの背が高いものに一杯一杯だったのですが、今回はかなり大きな家具を処分します。カードの道具や材料がかなり増えてはいますがシンガポールでは素敵な食器屋さんはあまりないので、ここで買った食器は韓国の作家さんのものを扱っておられたところから買ったものだけですのでそれほど増えていませんし、最近は寂しいと思いながらも本もキンドルで読むようにしていてそれほど買っていませんし、処分する予定のものもたくさんありました。クラウンの方には「他の２社は大きなコンテナー（背が高いものではなく普通の）で足りるし３日と言われましたけど。」とお伝えしましたが、コンテナー１個では背が高い方のものでも足りないと言われました。当然、コンテナー１個の見積もりだった２社のうち１社を選んだのですが、コンテナーの大きくて背が高い方のものでも足りないと１社から言われたのがとても気になって、もし入らなかったらどうしようかととても心配でした。それもあってかなり頑張ってものを処分したのですが、今日担当の方に聞いてみたら、背が高い方のコンテナーなら今ある家具全部入れても入ります、と言われました、眠れないくらい気になっていたのに（笑）。見積もりの時はまだ何も処分していない段階だったので、「本はこれくらい、洋服はこれくらい、食器はこれくらい、この収納庫のものはこれくらい捨てます。」と大体の目安をお伝えしただけでしたので、実際に伝えただけの量が処分できたのかどうかわからなかったですし、香港からの荷物を考えてもそんなに容量が必要なはずがないのにと思いつつも１社が変なことを言うものだからいらない心配をしました。お友達に「ああいうのは絶対多めに見積もるから、他の２社が大丈夫と言ったならきっと大丈夫。」と言われて少し気が楽になりましたが、それでもずっと心配していたのです。問題なくてよかった！それにしても、見積もり、間違いが大きすぎませんか？

We asked 3 moving companies to quote and 2 of them quoted for 1 large container (3 days for packing and loading them) but 1 company (Crown) quoted for 1 large container and 1 small container (4 days). When we moved from Hong Kong to Singapore, we used a tall and large container and apparently it was very full. This time we are leaving quite a few pieces of large furniture. I did collect a large amount of tools and materials for card making here (I didn’t have any of them) but I haven’t bought that many crockery here because I haven’t found a lot that I like other than what I bought in a shop that used to sell Korean artisan’s. I haven’t been buying that many books either – even though I miss having physical books I have been trying not to accumulate more books by reading on Kindle. I had told all the companies how much I was planning to dispose or give away, which is quite a large amount, so I didn’t understand why it was going to take more space than when we came. We told Crown that the other 2 companies told us that only 1 large container (not even a tall one) was enough, but she was adamant that we need 1 large and 1 small and naturally they were quite a lot more expensive. Of course we chose one of the other companies but I have been worrying since what happens if we have more stuff than they can put in a large container.

This morning, when one of the guys came first and we went around with him telling him which ones should be shipped and which weren’t, I asked him if a large container is going to be enough and he was sure it was, if we use a taller one we could take everything we have. So, the lady who quoted for 2 containers was totally wrong. How come can she be so wrong, though? What she told me literally kept me awake at night (or in the morning in my case… as I don’t go to bed until morning very often) because I was so worried! I’m so relieved but at the same time it’s disappointing that a professional person can make such a big mistake.
