今日は、久しぶりに「金曜の夜の外食」をしました。何度か行っている近く（と言っても車で５分くらい）にあるパブに行きました。やはり、結構混んでいました。イギリスは規制が取り外されてレストランなどでもマスクはしなくてもよくなっていて、スタッフの方達もマスクなしでした。こう言うところが、日本と違いますね。日本は多分規制されなくてもマスクされているところが多いと想像します。

We went out for “Friday night dinner” today.  We decided to go to a pub that we’d been to  few times and which is only about 5 minutes away by car.  It was very busy.  In England wearing a mask at a place like this isn’t compulsory any more and none of the staff were wearing one.  I don’t think this would happen in the same situation in Japan, people are wearing masks there even though it’s not compulsory.

わたしたちのテーブルの隣には８人くらいの席が用意されていて、到着された数人の方がそのテーブルの近くに立ってしばらくおしゃべりされていて、わたしたちの席と近かったので思わずわたしたちのテーブルを少し移動させてしまいましたし、反対側のカウンター席の周りで５人のグループの方達が食前のお酒を飲んでおられたので「あ〜、すぐ近くに立ってお喋りしないでほしいな〜。」と思ってしまいました。カウンター席の周りにおられたかたたちはハグや頬にキスもされていて、もうみなさん普通に行動されている様子。わたしと夫はまだビクビクしていますが。

There was a large table near us, maybe about 8 seats, and some of the people arrived were standing around chatting for a little while.  One of them was very close to us so we felt uncomfortable and moved our table away from them a bit.  On the other side, at the counter, there were also a few people drinking pre-drinks chatting amongst each other and we felt a bit uncomfortable as well and wished they weren’t so close to us chatting.  They were also hugging and kissing – they seem to be behaving like there was nothing to worry about, unlike us.

確かに一時期に比べればコロナによる死者数は減っていますが、それでも毎日１００人前後の方達が亡くなられているので、まだまだ、普通の気持ちにはなれません。感染者や死者は若い方達（まだワクチンを打っていない方達）が増えているようで、すでに２度済ませた方達はみなさん安心されていますが、ワクチンを打っても感染する率も低くはないので、まだ気をつけた方が良いように思うのですが。

Although the number of deaths by Corona is less than when it was at the peak, there are still 100 people or so dying in England each day, which is a much larger number than in Japan, I don’t feel we can relax yet.  I feel the general view is that if you have had the vaccine twice you are safe, but the possibility of getting it even after having had two vaccine shots isn’t small enough to ignore and feel we need to be careful a little longer until the number goes much lower.

夫の前菜は、ハルミチーズのフライ、スイートチリソース添え。

My husband had fried Halloumi cheese with sweet chilli sauce.

わたしはスコッチエッグ、カレーマヨ添え。２人とも揚げ物をオーダーしたので、この時点で結構お腹が膨れてしまいました（笑）。

I had Scotch egg with curry mayonnaise.  As both of us had fried food we felt we were already getting full by the time we finished our starters.

夫は、たら。

My husband had Cod for his main dish.

わたしは、バーガー。ウェルダン以上にウェルダンであまり味もなく。

I had a burger.  It was more than well done, a bit dry and with not much flavour.

夫はパブが大好きで、行きたがります。わたしもパブのビールは好きですし雰囲気も嫌ではないのですが、やっぱり食事は美味しいところが少ないので、レストランの方が良いな〜。

My husband loves pubs and I like their beer and the atmosphere, but not many pubs serve great food.  I have to say I prefer to go to a restaurant for meals…
