エジンバラ一日目の今日は、街歩きとランチとちょこっとお買い物をしました。借りているアパートメントはニュータウンにあるのでオールドタウンまで歩き、ランチはニュータウンに戻って予約していた「Dishoom」で。
Today was our 1st full day in Edinburgh and we just walked around the town, had lunch and did a little shopping. Our apartment is in New Town and we walked to Old Town, then came back to New Town to go to “Dishoom” for lunch.
Dishoom はロンドンに数店あるインド料理のカフェで、ロンドンでは何度か行っています。普通のインド料理レストランとは少し系統が違うメニューで、ロンドンに行く時には楽しみにしているカフェ。
Dishoom has a few branches in London and we’d been to a few of them a few times. Their menu is a little different from usual Indian restaurants and we like them very much, so we are always looking forward to going to one whenever we stay in London.
野菜のサモサ、チキンティッカ、チキンカレー、ブロッコリーとチリのサラダ、ハンカチロティ、デザートはチョコレート・プディング（チリアイス添え）。どれも美味しくいただきました。他のものは多分これまでに食べたことがあるのですが、ブロッコリーとチリのサラダは初めていただき、ちょっと変わったサラダで美味しかったです。ブロッコリー、チリ、ミント、ピスタチオ、デイツ、南瓜の種、向日葵の種、蜂蜜、ライム汁が入っていました、家でも作れると思うのでトライしてみようと思います。
We had Vegetable Samosa, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Curry, Chilli Broccoli Salad, Roomali Roti, and Chocolate Pudding with Chilli Ice Cream for dessert. We enjoyed everything. I think we’d had all of them before except the Chilli Broccoli Salad, which was a bit unusual and very nice. I think we can recreate it easily at home, it had raw broccoli, chilli, mint, pistachio, dates, pumpkin seeds, sun flower seeds, honey and lime juice.
ランチの後は、M＆Sで少しお買い物をし、Waterstonesという本屋さんでしばらく本を見て、アパートメントに戻りました。借りているお家があると住んでいる気分で過ごせるのも良いところ。
After lunch, we did some shopping in M&S, then browsed books in Waterstones before coming back to the apartment. When you rent an apartment or a house, you can feel as if you are living here, which is a nice feeling.
ちなみに、M＆Sでは久しぶりに洋服を見てフィッティンググルームでいくつか着る物をトライしましたが、コロナでロックダウンになって以来初めてだったのでちょっと変な感じがしました。イギリスでは減ってはいるもののまだまだ感染者も出ていますし死者も出ているので、安心して公共の施設が使えるわけではないのですが、まぁ、いつまでも篭っているわけにもいかないし、といったところです。
Incidentally, I tried some clothes in the fitting room in M&S for the first time since lockdown and I must say I felt a little uneasy. Even though the numbers of people infected and killed are declining they are not small yet so you don’t feel safe using public facilities like that. However, we cannot stay home forever, I suppose…
