久しぶりに、全体的なガーデンアップデート。
A long overdue garden update.
裏庭は、こんな感じになっています。芝生は茶色っぽく枯れている部分も結構あります。イギリスはこの夏、ほとんど雨が降っていなくてどこのお家の芝生も多分こんな感じかもっと茶色くなっているはず。家の前のグリーンはもっと茶色いです。我が家は北向きなので、まだこの程度。向かって右側の端の方にいくつか紫陽花（スノーボール）を植えていますが、その辺りは土が悪すぎるのか水捌けが悪いのか、あまりうまく育っていません。他の部分はかなり順調。
This is how our back garden looks now. The lawn is looking a bit brown in the middle. As we haven’t had much rain this summer, I think most people’s gardens are looking like this or worse, the green in front of us is looking a lot worse. Ours isn’t too bad as it’s north facing. We have some snowballs on the right side that don’t seem to be doing well, but that’s the only area like that, the rest is pretty good.
今一番元気なのは、ポットやバスケットに植えてあるペチュニアと、このコスモス。コスモスは次々に咲いて、本当に元気です。でも、あまり花持ちは良くなく、すぐ枯れてゆく気がします。
The plants that are doing the best are petunias in pots/baskets and these Cosmos. The Cosmos have been blooming a lot, doing really well. I say they flower a lot but each flower doesn’t last very long.
コスモスの右側はサルビアの１種で、随分前に切り戻したのですが２度目のお花は上がってきていません。咲かないのかな？
The plants to the right of the Cosmos are Salvia, I cut them back a while ago but we haven’t seen any 2nd blooms, maybe they don’t bloom twice?
下の写真の左側の赤いお花がペンステモン。いちど全部切り戻してしばらくお花がなかったのですが、また２つ目が上がってきています。低いパープルのお花はジェラニューム。奥のパティオの奥の方にあるグレーの背が高い長方形のコンテナーにハーブを植えていますが、左のコンテナーにモコモコと元気なのは、ベトナムミント（ベトナムコリアンダー）と紫蘇。こんなに育つとは思わず小さな苗を３つずつ植えたら、とんでもないことに。紫蘇はそこそこ活用していますが、ベトナムミントはなかなか食べられず、育ち放題です。隣に植えたバジルには日が当たらず、なかなか育たない（笑）。
The plants on the left of the photo are Penstemon. I cut them back once so there werent any flowers for a little while but the second growth ones are coming out now. The low purple flowers are Geraniums. We have 2 tall grey containers for planting herbs in the back of the patio on this photo. On the left container you can see a huge mound of green. They are Vietnamese Mint (Vietnamese Coriander) and Shiso (Steak Leaves), we only planted 3 tiny plants but they grew so large. We have been using Shiso quite a lot in cooking but haven’t had the chance to use any Vietnamese Mint. The basil we planted next to it in the same container isn’t growing because it doesn’t get much sun in the shadow of the larger plants!
薔薇もいくつかは咲きました。先日何度か目に咲いたのが、これ。とっても良い香りです。薔薇は１年目は咲かせてはいけないと読んだのですが全然お花が見られないのも悲しいので、これくらい咲いたら蕾も一緒に切って花瓶に入れて楽しむようにしています。
Our Roses have had some flowers, too, but not many. Apparently you aren’t supposed to let them flower in their first year and cut them whilst they are still in bud, but we want to see the flowers so we do let them flower like this, this is about the time I cut them with the buds included and put them in a vase.
フロント・ガーデンは、こんな感じ。
Our front garden is looking like this.
家に向かって立って、玄関の左側。こちらはキッチンなので、キッチンの窓からバーベナが見えます。バーベナが元気すぎて、デルフィニュームは押され気味。デルフィニュームはまだ背が低くて、お花も咲いていることは咲いているのですがとても小さなお花で目立ちません。来年はもっと大きく育ってほしいものです。
Facing the house, this is the left side of the front door, where the kitchen window is so we can see those Verbena from the kitchen.
玄関の右側。
This is the right side of the front door.
パーキング側にある（家に向かって左）ドア側。
This is near the back (side?) door near the parking area, which is on the left side facing the house.
ダリアは６種類を２つずつ植えてあるのですが、このポンポンダリアが一番たくさんお花をつける気がします。そして、花持ちも良いです。
We have 2 plants each of 6 different kinds of Dhalias but these pompom ones seem to have more blooms than the others, and they seem to last long, too.
写真ではイマイチですがそれぞれに少しずつ色も違ってグラデーションがきれいで、見ていて楽しいです。
You cannot see it so much on the photos but each flower is in different colours and the graduation of the colours are very pretty.

この種類は、今咲いているのは、この１輪。
This is the only bloom we have at the moment of this kind.
そして、もう１種類はまだ咲いていないのですが、もうすぐ最初の１輪が咲きそう、すごく大きなお花になりそうです。
And one more hasn’t bloomed yet, although one flower looks almost ready to bloom, I think they’ll be very large ones.
ダリアは綺麗なのですがたくさん虫がつきやすくて、虫が大の苦手のわたしはあまり近づけない。本当はもっと切花にしたいのですが、なかなか出来ません。１度目の殺虫剤を少し前に撒いたので、そろそろ２度目を撒かないと。多分、もっと早く撒いておかないといけないんだろうと思います。来年は早めに使いたいと思います。
Although Dhalias are beuatiful, they seem to attract a lot of bugs and I really really hate that. I would love to cut them and put them in vases but I cannot do that often. We used some spray a week or so ago, so we should use it again soon. I think we should have used it much earlier, we will next year.
