昨日はまだ気分が良くなったり悪くなったりだったので、１日ベッドで過ごしましたが、今日は熱はほぼ平熱に戻っていますし大丈夫そうだったので、２日ぶりにシャワーを浴びて髪を洗って乾かして、一応起きて過ごしています。寝込むと起きた時にふらついて体が重かったりするものだという遠い記憶ですが、今回は結構大丈夫。お昼も普通にサンドイッチを食べました。まだ鼻詰まり治っていないのであまり味はしないのですが、食欲はそこそこあるので元気になってきたということでしょう。お薬はまだ飲んでいて切れてくるとまたしんどくはなりますが、動けないほどではない。
Yesterday, I still spent the whole day in bed, sitting up when I felt better and laying down when I felt unwell, but my temperature is down to almost normal today so I got up, took a shower, washed my hair, dried it – just this seems to take a lot of energy when you aren’t feeling normal – and spending the day out of bed. I remember after spending a day or two (or more) in bed with a temperature I would feel very heavy and hard to move when I get out of bed from all those years ago, but I am doing much better now than I expected. I had sandwiches for lunch, too. My nose is still blocked most of the time so I cannot taste much but I do have a little appetite now, so I must be on the mend. I still need to take medicine to feel better and when it wears off I feel a bit unwell, but not so bad.
お昼の後、せっかくの新しいガーデンファーニチャーのソファーに座ってみようと外に出たら庭の花殻が気になって、まだお庭仕事するほど元気じゃないだんけど、と思いながら、結局４５分ほどしてしまい、案の定ちょっと気分が悪くなりました（苦笑）。この何日間かで雑草も育っていて気になりますが、まだそこまで動くのは無理なのでしません！お庭のソファー、とても座り心地が良くて寛げます。ずっと変えたい、変えたいと思いながら「これ！」と思うものがなくてダイニングセットを買っていなくて良かったです！夜中に雨が降りましたが、ソファーは撥水なので乾いていました。曇ったり晴れたりなお天気ですが気温が２０度くらいと丁度良い気温で風もないので、外に座るのに良い気候です。まぁ、こういうお天気がイギリスで今年どれほどあるかは問題ですが、来年はもう少しマシな夏になりますように。（日本はまだまだこれからが暑い時ですが、イギリスの８月はもう秋なのです。でも、９月ごろにインディアンサマーが来ることもあるので、それに期待。）
After lunch, I went out to the garden because I wanted to see how it was to sit on the sofa of the new garden furniture, but I saw many dead flowers that I should be cutting off. I knew I shouldn’t be doing that yet but I just couldn’t help myself, so I did. After about 45 minutes of gardening, I suddenly felt unwell – as you would expect! – and had to stop. A lot of weeds have grown larger/taller since I last saw the garden and I wish I could pull them out but I really shouldn’t do much yet.
The new garden sofa is very comfortable! I am so happy that we didn’t buy a dining set earlier. It rained heavily during the night, but the sofa cusions are water repellent so they were already dry. It was overcast when I was out but the temperature was about 20C, which is just a nice temperature to sit out. There was no breeze, which made it comfortable. I don’t know how many days like this we will have this year but hopefully we’ll have better summer next year. (It seems too early to give up for this year, but August in England is already autumn so I don’t expect we’ll have real summer although I suppose there is still a chance of having an Indian summer in Septmber.)
この何年か、よくインスタでスモークツリーを使ってお花のアレンジを見かけていて素敵だな〜と憧れていたので、お庭のリノベーションの時にスモークツリーを植えていただいたのですが、スモークツリーでも色々あるということを知らず特にこの種類と指定しなかったので、思っていなかった種類が植えられました。良く色々なところで見かけるので、イギリスではこのスモークツリーが主流なのかな、と思います。色が赤っぽい茶色で白いふわふわではないのも意外でしたし、まぁ、色は良いのですが、スモークが小さ過ぎてとてもがっかりしました。特に１年めはスモークはほとんどなかったので「大失敗」とがっかりしていたのですが、３年めの今年、やっと少しはスモークらしいスモークになってきました。多分、それでもインスタで見かけるような大きくてふわふわのものにはならないのだと思いますが。
I see a lot of flower arrangement with smoke tree branches on Japanese instagrammers and I’ve always wanted to use them, so when we were discussing what plants to have in our garden, I asked our designer to add smoke tree(s) if possible. However, later, I found out that there are many different types of smoke trees and saw the ones that our designer had planted were not what I wanted. I see many of the same ones around here so they must be the most common type in England. What I wanted were not reddish brown colour, they were white ones which make large heads of ‘smokes’. I don’t mind the colour so much but I really wanted large heads of smokes but it was too late. The first year I didn’t see any ‘smokes’ on the tree, but they did become more noticeable in the last 2 years, I’m happy to see, still small but at least more noticeable.
どれほど切って良いのかわからないのもあり、ほとんどスモークでなかったのもあり切って使ったことはなかったのですが、そろそろ終わりの時期なのでせっかくなので切ってみました。少しだけ咲いているポンポンダリアと合わせて飾っています。
I don’t know if cutting them in the season does any damage to them so I hadn’t cut them before but today I cut a few branches because the season is ending. They look quite nice with our pom pom dahlias.
ちなみに、先日、今年の夏は雨が特に多いので紫陽花が綺麗だと書きましたが、反対にダリアは太陽の光を必要とするので今年はあまり咲いていません。
Incidentally, I wrote that the hydrangeas are looking good this year because of so much rain, but contrary to that dahlias are not doing well, not many flowers are out this year as they need the sun.
