今日は２週間に１度の刺繍の会の集まりがアランデルであり、いつもはお隣のお友達と一緒に行くのですが今日はお友達が行けなかったので、夫に送ってもらって迎えに来てもらいました。お昼前にチチェスターのネイルサロンに予約を入れていたのでネイルをしてもらってから、アランデルの「Cockburn’s Tea Rooms」で夫とランチをしました。
There was a gathering of my embroidery group in Arundel, which happens once every fortnight. I usually go there with my next door neighbour but she wasn’t able to come today so my husband took me and picked me up there afterwards. I had an appointment at the nail salon in Chichester before lunch so had to go there first, then we drove to Arundel and had lunch at “Cockburn’s Tea Rooms”.
ベーコン、ブリー、クランベリージャムのサンドイッチとコロネーションチキンのサンドイッチ、どちらも最近は焼いていただいています。少し前まで焼いていただけるのを知らず（よく見たらちゃんとメニューに書かれていました）普通にいただいていたのですが、パンが少しぱさついていることもあり、焼いた方が断然美味しい。美味しいサンドイッチが少ないイギリスですが、こちらはとても美味しいです。結構なボリュームなので、夜はスープで軽い食事にする予定。
We shared two sandwiches – Bacon, Brie & Cranberry Jam, and Coronation Chicken – both grilled. Until recently we didn’t know they did them grilled as well (it was written on the menu but we missed it) but recently the staff asked if we wanted it grilled or not and since then we’ve been having it that way. I like hot sandwiches better in general anyway but specially if the bread is on the dry side. I don’t find a lot of sandwiches I enjoy here but these ones are very nice. They are quite filling so we’ll have just soup this evening.
せっかくアランデルにいたので、食材店のPallant of Arundel を覗いてクリスマス用のお菓子類をちょこちょこっと買いました。そして、刺繍の集まりまでに時間が余ったので、アラン川沿に少しお散歩もしました。イギリスではみなさんお散歩が大好きなので、川沿いを歩いていると必ずお散歩中のたくさんの方達とすれ違います。
Since we were in Arundel, we had a look at Pallant of Arundel (a nice delicatessen) and bought a few bits and pieces for Christmas. We also had a walk along the river Arun because there was plenty of time before I had to go to the embroidery group gathering. People love walking here so you see many people walking towards you when you walk along the river like here.
今日の刺繍の集まりは、Stephanie Smartさんのトークでした。何回かに１度、刺繍などをされているアーティストのお話しがあります。今日は布ではなく、紙でお洋服や靴などを作られるアーティストのトークでした。素晴らしい作品ばかりで、どうやれば、こういう作品が出来るのだろうとわたしの頭では想像がつきません。布のお洋服とは違って脱いだり着たりする必要がないので布で作るのとはまた違う技術だそうで、布のコスチュームは縫えないとおっしゃっていました。なるほど。
It was a day with a guest speaker at the Embroidery Group gathering today and the guest was “Stephanie Smart“, who is a fine art artist, she makes clothes & shoes with paper. Her work is just amazing and I cannot imagine how she designs these things. She said she cannot sew any clothes with fabrics because she doesn’t have to design the paper clothes so you can put them on and off. Interesting.
今年の刺繍の会の集まりは今日が最後、次回は１月。（クリスマスのアフタヌーンティーの集まりが再来週にありますが、わたしは参加しないので。）
It was the last gathering of this embroidery group this year, the next one will be in January. (There is actually a Christmas afternoon tea in two weeks but I won’t be joining them this time.)
３時２０分ごろにトークが終わり、夫に迎えに来てもらいましたが、３時半になるとこんな暗さです（これでも加工で明るくしています）。今日はお天気が良かったので、これでも明るい方。
The talk finished around 3:20 and I was out around 3:30 to wait for my husband to pick me up and it was already quite dark. I did make the photo a little brighter, it was actually much darker.
