クルーズ9日目、アテネ２日目の今日は、8時15分出発の「アクロポリス神殿とプラカ地区を歩く」ツアーに参加しました。今日は、薄曇りでお昼頃にパラパラっと短期間雨もぱらつきました。朝一番は肌寒かったのですが、見学をしているうちにだんだんと気温が上がり、汗ばむほどになりました。今はまだ本格的な観光シーズンではないのでアクロポリスの遺跡は比較的空いていいて、ガイドさんは「空っぽ」とまでおっしゃっていました、涼しかったですし空いていて見学がしやすく、この時期はおすすめです。遺跡にはつきものですが足元が悪いところが多く、特にオリジナルの大理石の部分はツルツルと滑りやすいので注意が必要です。
紀元前8世紀に誕生した都市国家（ポリス）アテナイは古代ギリシャ文明の最盛期の象徴で、アクロポリスはオリンポスの神々を祀った神域であり、同時に敵の侵入を防ぐ要塞でもありました。そのアクロポロスを象徴するように立つパンテノン神殿などをガイドさんのお話を聞きながら見て回ったのですが、パルテノン神殿の多くの部分は大英博物館に展示されています。
Today is Day 9 of the cruise and our 2nd day in Athens and we joined an excursion, “Acropolis & Plaka District by Foot’. It was mostly cloudy in the morning and it spitted with rain just for a few minutes around lunch time. It was cool first thing in the morning but the temperature went up slowly and it did get warm by lunch time (20C). As it’s not yet the tourist season it was relatively quiet – the guide even said the Acropolis was “empty” – and the weather was nice, too, I think it’s a good time to visit these places. Like any of these places the ground is very uneven and you have to be specially careful when you walk on the original marble parts as they are extremely slippery.
Acropolis Athens was built in BC8C and it’s a symbol of the peak of Ancient Greek Culture. The Acropolis was where they worshiped the gospel but also the Fortress to keep out enemies. We walked around the ruins with the guide, including of course The Parthenon, some parts of which are now in The British Museum (as our guide mentioned several times!).
ぐるっと廻った後自由時間があり、1時間後くらいに待ち合わせ場所で集合し、再びバスに乗ってアクロポロスの麓にあり、特別保存地域として古い街並みが残されているプラカ地区をガイドさんに少し案内していただきました。
After walking around we had some free time for about an hour, then met the guide, got on the bus again to go to the Plaka District of central Athens, which has many preserved old buildings. The guide took us to a couple of places, then we had about an hour’s free time again.
ここでも1時間ほどの自由時間があり、ちょうどランチタイムだったのでカフェでランチをすることに。シェアーしようということでチキンとポークのギロスを1つずつオーダーし、持ってきた人も「こちらがチキン、こちらがポーク」と置いたのですが、どう見てもどちらもポーク。でも、あまり時間がなかったのでクレームせず。そして、ギロスというのはフラットブレッドで挟んだりピタパンに詰めたりするイメージでしたが、ピタパンが添えられているだけでした。お肉もチップスも量が多過ぎて、ほとんど残すことに。お味は、まぁまぁ、でした。お会計の時にオーダーを取った人が担当されたので、夫が「チキンとポークをオーダーしたのに、これは2つともポークだよね。」と言うと、「ちゃんとオーダーはチキンとポークになってるのに、すみません。」と一応謝られました。
Since it was lunch time, we decided to have lunch at a cafe. We thought we would share chicken and pork gyros so we ordered one of each. The staff who brought them also said one was chicken and the other pork, but they both seemed to be pork. We were running out of time by then so we didn’t complain to them, just ate what we had. We thought gyros were either a wrap with a flat bread filled with slices of meat, vegetables & sauce or pita bread filled with them but they weren’t, the pita bread was cut in small sizes on the side and there wasn’t much salad. Too much meat and too much chips so we left most of it. It tasted so-so, I would say. We did let the staff who gave us the bill (who happened to have taken our orders earlier) about not getting chicken and he did apologise telling us the orders were correct but they had delivered the wrong things.
船のシャトルバスがパルカ地区と船を行き来しているので、ランチの後に残ることもできましたが、わたしたちは（そして他のほとんどの方達も）船に戻ることにしました。
We could have stayed there after lunch and made our own way back, but like most of the other passengers we decided to get back to the ship on the bus.
夕食は、ビュッフェレストランに行って食べられそうなものがあるか見てみたところ、地元のお料理コーナーにムサカがあったので、初めてサラダ以外のものを食べてみることに。他にはほうれん草とフェタチーズのフィロ包み、トマトのコフタ、ポテト、ブロッコリーのニンニク炒め。ムサカは茄子を薄くスライスして事前に火を通さずミートソースの上に置いてオーブンで焼いたみたいで茄子に火が通っていなかったのが残念でしたが、お味は悪くはなかったです。デザートはバクラバとクッキー。
We looked what they have in the World Cafe and found Moussaka in the local food area so we decided to have a dinner -like meal at the World Cafe for the first time. Sadly the aubergine wasn’t cooked through because I guess they put uncooked thinly sliced aubergine on the meat sauce and put them in the oven but at least it tasted OK. Other things I had was fillo parcel with spinach and feta cheese, tomato kofta, potato and broccoli with garlic. We had a piece of baklava each for the dessert and also cookies.
