I started walking in a gym about 3 times a week ay the beginning of March (although I did miss many weeks for various reasons including our cruising holiday) and I started using a Japanese method of walking (Interval walking, which is 3 minutes of fast walking, then 3 minutes of slow walking) and repeat it for 30 minutes or longer, apparently you need to do this 4 times a week but you can walk just twice if you walk for an hour. I was wearing a pair of sneakers that I bought years ago (probably 20 years ago because it was in our early days in Hong Kong), and the rubber parts on the soles started coming off. It’s totally understandable, many shoes with rubber soles that we’ve had in Hong Kong and Singapore fell apart after we came to England including our walking boots.
So I needed new shoes. I had an appointment at my hair salon in Chichester after lunch time, so we decided we would go and buy a pair of shoes for me, then lunch before my hair appointment. My husband took me to a little running gear shop, where you walk on a treadmill so they can examine the way you walk and the problems you may have with your feet and then recommend the right type of shoes. I tried 3 different pairs and in the end bought a pair of Mizuno Wave Horizon 8. The guy in charge of me was great and I felt good about getting them, although I was a little surprised by how expensive they were (my husband knew how expensive they would be so that was OK), it was £165. I thought they would be about half that price in Japan but when I found them on a Japanese online site (at least I think they are the same ones), they actually cost £245 – much more. I wonder why…
We remembered that years ago, probably about 10 years ago, when my husband was still running, I found a Mizuno place, where you run on a treadmill like the one I walked on today and they analyse the way you run and your feet and make a personally fit shoes and my husband did get a pair of running shoes specially made for him.
It took us longer to buy the shoes than I expected so we just stopped at a Cafe Nero for a quick lunch. I had Ham & Cheese Panini and my husband had Bacon & Brie Sandwich, both quite good. This has always been a mystery to me. Sandwiches that you buy from a normal supermarket, or in this sort of coffee shops are usually good in England. Why I have had so many almost inedibly bad (too salty, too dry, too something) sandwiches in pubs and proper cafe/retaurants?
I had extra time to kill before my appointment at the hair salon so I went into H&M near there to browse and saw this hat and bought it. I guess it’s a bucket hat? I realised after putting it on outside that it doesn’t really protect my face from the sun but I quite like the look.
