先月の初め、セールになっていた時に室内で人工の光を使ってハーブなどを水栽培で育てるものをバジルの種付きで購入しました。この何年か気にはなっていたのですが、そこまでしなくても良いかなと手を出していませんでした。でも、バジルはお庭に植えても虫にすぐに食べられてしまって育たないですし、小さなポットに植えたものをスーパーで買っても季節が良い時は結構保ちますが寒くなって日が短くなってくるとあっという間にだめになってしまいます。バジルがあればなと思うことが多いので、思い切って使ってみることにして、小さなのをオーダーしました。電気ソケットが近くに必要なのと、光がすごく強いので置く場所が限られます、キッチンの隅っこに置いています。
Early last month, we bought an Indoor Herb Garden, which was on sale then and came with basil seeds. I’ve been wanting to try it for the last few years but I thought maybe it’s not really necessary. However, whenever we tried to grow basil in the garden it got eaten very quickly when they are still very small, and when we buy a small pot of basil from a supermarket they last for a while when the weather is good but once it starts getting colder and the days get shorter they stop lasting much and we often wish we had basil on hand. So we decided to give it a go and bought this small one. As you need an electric socket and the light is extremely strong there aren’t a lot of choices where to put, we have it in a corner in the kitchen.
購入したのは、１２月５日。翌日くらいにお水を入れて、１０日後の１７日がこの状態。
We bought it on the 5th December and I think we set it up on the following day. This is about 10 days later, on the 17th December.
そして、その１０日後、２７日。食べられるくらいになったので、大きくするためにたまに積み始めた頃です。
Then 10 days after the above, on the 27th, they’d grown this much. I started picking here and there so they will grow bushy.
そして、今日。ずいぶん大きくなりました。まだまだ大きく育つはずなので、これからが楽しみです。
This is how they are today, they’ve grown quite tall but they will grow much larger so I’m looking forward to seeing them nice and large.
