My husband and I were saying how we don’t seem to be having much jet-lag on this trip but then it did catch up with us. Very unlike me I woke up very early (as well as many times during the night) today, but we stayed home in the morning (well, at the apartment) as our 2 suitcases were scheduled to be delivered before noon from the airport (and of course they arrived around 11:00am – this is Japan). We then did the unpacking, then had lunch – we’d bought some sandwiches and other bread from a bakery near us intending to have them for supper yesterday but we went out, so we had them for lunch today.
In the afternoon we went out to walk in Centre-gai in Sannomiya but I started feeling not quite well. Yesterday I had some sneezing and runny nose but I thought and hoped it was just an allergic reaction to dust or something as I often have that on the plane and afterwards. However, it started to feel like a beginning of a cold around lunch time today. No fever, no sore throat, just a bit of runny nose or stuffed up nose and a little strange feeling around my nose and head and I felt I didn’t have enough energy to walk around for long. So, after looking in a few shops we had coffee / juice in Morozoff before coming home.
Whenever I come back to Japan it always surprises me how busy places are, even on a weekday, we had to queue for a table at Morozoff for quite a while. The good thing is that it’s been renovated so looked nicer and also all the whole place is now non-smoking. Believe it or not, when we were there in 2019 there was still a non-smoking area and a smoking area but there wasn’t any barrier between them and the smoke would naturally go everywhere. Also the smoking area would have plenty of free tables but the non-smoking area got full quickly and there was always a queue for it.
My husband had coffee and I had fresh apple juice. My husband wanted to have Vienna Coffee but they didn’t have it on their menu. Thinking about it, I wonder if people don’t have Vienna coffee any more, it was almost always on a menu in the old days.
We were planning to go out for dinner today but decided to have something easy at the apartment instead as I’m feeling a bit off. We bought Japanese/Chinese pork buns and gyoza at a very popular take-away shop, as well as some Japanese sweets – both of them were my Mum’s favourite so I used to buy them on my way home when I was staying with Mum. This was the first time for my husband to have them – he enjoyed them both.
We don’t have any appointment with anyone for another week so we’ll take it easy and hopefully my cold will go quickly.
