すごく暖かくて２０度くらいあったのに比べるとこのところ気温は低めです。お天気が良い日は昼間は１６、７度くらいまで上がりますが、朝夕は８度以下まで下がってまだまだ寒い。イギリスの冬は日本とそう変わらない気温でそれほど寒くなるわけではないのですが、やはり気温が低い時期が長いなと実感します。１１月はすでに日本の真冬の気候でしたし、５月の今は日本の３月ごろの感じです。これ水曜日からだんだん気温が上がってロンドンは２４度くらいまで上がる予報ですが、その後またすぐ寒くなるようです（４度まで下がるらしい）。わたしは暑いのは苦手なので、苦にはなりませんが。むしろ、去年、一昨年のように夏が暑くなったら冷房のない家で困るなと思っているところです。クーラーを取り付けてもらう予定でいたのですが、今の状況ではそれも難しそう。
Comparing to the weather we had a few weeks ago, when the temperature was up to 20C, it’s been very cool for the last couple of weeks. When it’s sunny it does go up ot 26C or 17C but it goes down to 8C or so, which is chilly. Although the lowest temperature in winter is about the same in Japan and here, the time when it’s cool or cold is a lot longer here. It was already very cold in November when we came and now it’s May but it still goes down to 8C or lower. From Wednesday it’s forecasted to go up to 24C in London but then it turns as cold as 4C! I hate hot weather so I’m not complaining. I’m more worried about it getting too hot in the summer as we have no air-conditioning. We were planning to have it installed but with the current situation that may not be possible this year.
とはいえ、冬に比べれば気温は上がっていますし、お庭のお花もずいぶん咲いて来ています。
Still, it is warmer than in winter now and the flowers are blooming in the garden.
クレマチスはほぼ満開、とっても綺麗。家の中から見えないところなのが残念ですが、お隣のお花なので（笑）見れるだけラッキー。
Clematis is in full bloom, very pretty. Unfortunately, we cannot see them from inside the house because they aren’t ours, they are coming from the next door over the fence.
ピオニーの蕾もだいぶん膨らんで来ましたが、咲くまでにはまだしばらくかかりそう。余り陽当たりがよくないところに植わっています。
The buds of the ponies are getting larger but they look a long way before flowering.
ティーローズもたくさん咲き始めました。
Many tea roses are coming out.
シャクナゲもずいぶん咲いています。蕾の時は結構ピンクなのですが、咲くとほとんど白くなります。
Also rhododendrons are coming out. These look quite pink when buds but look more white once they open up.
Geum もたくさん咲いています。小さな株でお花も小さいのですが、オレンジなので遠くからでも結構目立ちます。
A lot of geum are also out. It’s a very short plant and the flowers are very small, too, but I can see them well from inside the house because of the strong orange colour.
ジャパニーズ・メイプルの真下に小さな池が作ってあり、そのすぐ右横に紫陽花があって、真ん中あたりに枇杷の木。上のお花やオレンジブロッサムなどは真ん中から右側に集中しています。
Under the Japanese maple tree, there is a small pond. Next to it, there are some hydrangeas. Then Japanese plum tree. The above flowers are all from the middle of the garden to the right.
