久しぶりにお出かけしました。桜がみたいと思い、どこで見られるか、どれくらい開いているか調べてみているのですがあまり情報がありません。とりあえず、家から車で１時間くらいのところにあるナショナルトラスト 「Nymans」に行ってみました。
We actually went somewhere today! It’s been a long time since we went anywhere for fun. I really wanted to see some cherry blossoms and have been searching the information about where we can see them and how much they are open around here but haven’t been able to find much, so we decided to try “Nymans“, which is about an hour’s drive from home.
普段ナショナルトラスト は予約などいらないのですが、ロックダウン中はチケットを買わないと入れないようになっているところがほとんどのようです。わたしたちは１年間のパスを持っているので無料ですが、無料のチケットをネットで事前に購入しておく必要があります。駐車場は一杯でしたが中はとても広いので特に混んでいるという印象ではありませんでした。お天気予報ではそこそこ良いお天気のはずでしたが、出かける時から雨が降りました。Nymans ではほんの少しぱらついただけで降るというほどではなかったですが、前半は風があって結構寒かったです。そんな中で、芝生でピクニックをしているご家族もありました。もう少し暖かかったら、ピクニック、楽しそう。
You don’t usually need to make any booking to go to a National Trust garden but during the lockdown most of them have a system that requires you to get tickets online in advance. We have a year NT pass so it’s free entry for us but we still need to book a slot. The parking lot was very full but the grounds are so large that you don’t see that many people. It loooked like the weather was going to be quite nice looking at the weather forecast but it started to rain when we left home and we had a few drops of rain in Nymans – but just a few drops for a minute or so. It was a little windy in the beginning so felt very cold but it felt better later. We saw some families having picnics, it would be fun if the weather is good.
道中の木々もまだまだ裸木で冬の景色に近かったですし、ガーデンも水仙がまだまだ咲いていて、クロッカスやヒヤシンスも咲いていて、チューリップはまだ咲きはじめの感じでした。モクレンも場所によっては満開でしたが、場所によってはまだまだ蕾でした。
The trees we saw while we were driving there were mostly still bare and the garden at Nymans still had a lot of daffodils/narcisus, some crocus and hyacinths. Some tulips were out but I think they had just started to bloom. Depending on the location, some magnolia trees were full of bloom but many of them still had mostly buds.
桜みたい、と思ったら、プルーンのお花だそうです。とっても綺麗で、お花見気分を味わえました。（追記 夫がプルーンというのを信じましたが、間違っていたそうです、桜でした！）
We thought these might be cherry trees but they were prune trees, they looked very similar and very pretty. (I belived what my husband said but apparently they were not prunes, they were cherry trees!)
モクレン。我が家のお庭にあるモクレンと同じひょろっとした花びらのタイプのモクレン。
Magnolias. These look the same or similar to the one we have, thin and long petals rather than plump ones.

椿がたくさん咲いていましたが、そろそろ終わりかな。いろいろな種類がありました。
Camelias were in fully bloom or nearly at the end of their season. There were many kinds.
場所によっては、石楠花の蕾が膨らんでいました。
Some rhododendrons had plump buds.
他にもたくさんのお花が咲いていました。
We saw many flowers, which was fun.
桜は見られませんでしたが（桜の木がないのか、まだ開いていないだけなのかは未確認）、良く似たプラムのお花が綺麗でしたし、久しぶりのお出かけ、楽しかったです。
Although we couldn’t find cherry blossoms (we don’t know if there aren’t any cherry trees or they just aren’t ready for flowers), the plum trees looked beautiful. We really enjoyed the half-day out.
