やっと、時差ぼけは解消したように思います。こちらに戻って来て、８日目、やはりそれくらいかかりますね。
I feel much better today, I think my jet-lag is more or less gone now. Today is the 8th day since we came back, and they say you need a day for each hour of the time difference, so it is more or less that.
今日は仲良くしていただいているお友達ご夫婦に、午後からお茶に来ていただきました。旅行に出る前の９月末以来なので、2ヶ月ぶり。昨日、夫と一緒にショーラムの La Patissiere というパン屋さん兼ケーキ屋さんに行って買ってきたタルトとフィナンシェ風のものをお出ししました。「ほんとにお茶とケーキだけにしてね。色々作ったりしないで。」と言われていたので、本当にそれだけ。
Our good friend couple came over for tea and cake this afternoon. We got together at the end of September before our Japan trip so it’s been 2 months since we met last and there was a lot to catch up. My husband and I went to La Patisserie yesterday to buy some tarts and financier type of things so that’s what we served with tea. When we decided that they’ll come over, my friend told me not to make anything, just serve tea and cake so that’s what I did.
元々日本人を含めたアジア人ほどおもてなしに食べきれないほど色々お出しする、という習慣はイギリスにはないですし、わたしたちのお友達はみなさんわたしたちと同じくらいか年上の方が多いので、ますます体力もなくなって来ているので、どんどん軽く、簡単に、の方向に進んでいます。こちらが頑張るとあちらも頑張らなくては行けなくなって来るので、し過ぎるのも良くないように感じますし、わたしたちもそれほど食べられなくなってきているので、本当に簡単なおもてなしになってきました。
Asian people including Japanese tend to do a lot (sometimes too much) when they entertain because that’s the way we show our love but English people don’t necessarily do that. Specially now our friends are as old or older than us and we don’t have as much energy as we used to, so we tend to entertain more simply. If we do a lot, then they feel they have to reciprocate and that’s not so good. We also cannot eat as much as we used to, so entertaining is getting more simple in our old age.
レモンメレンゲタルト、ストロベリータルト、アプリコットタルト、ラズベリータルト。お友達ご夫婦はレモンメレンゲタルトとストロベリータルトを選ばれて半分ずつ、わたしたちも残り２つを半分ずつシェアしました。お友達はレモンメレンゲタルトが気に入られたみたいでした、わたしもレモンメレンゲが一番好きかな。
Lemon meringue tart, strawberry tart, apricot tart and raspberry tart. Our friends chose lemon meringue tart and strawberry tart, they shared them, and my husband and I shared the other two. Our friends specially liked Lemon Meringue tart, I think that’s my favourite, too.
たくさんキャッチアップが出来て、とても楽しかったです。
We had a great time catching up with each other.
１１月もあと１週間になって、クリスマスがすぐそこ、というムードに溢れていますが、わたしたちはちょっと取り残されている気分で全然クリスマス気分にはなれていません。1ヶ月もいないとそんな感じです。それでも、クリスマス前にキャッチアップしましょう、とお友達や家族との予定は入って来ていますし、美容院やネイルもクリスマス前には必ず行かなくてはいけないですし、なんだかんだとカレンダーが埋まってきています。知り合いが少ないわたしたちでもそうなので、お友達やご家族が多い方達はもっとそうだと思います。香港でもシンガポールでも気忙しく感じる時期でした。
Only a week left in November and Christmas seems just around the corner now, but we aren’t feeling Christmassy at all yet, I think we are very behind having been away for a month. Still, our calendar is getting busier with catch up lunches/teas with our friends and families as well as my hair salon and nail appointments as I do want to go to them a little before Christmas. We don’t have many friends or families here so those who have a lot of them must be getting really busy. I remember I used to “feel” busy in Hong Kong and Singapore.
わたしたちには子供がいないですし、イギリスには家族は夫の兄家族と弟家族しかいないこともあってなかなかクリスマスムードにはなれない気がしますが、いくつか外出する機会を作ってクリスマスムードを高めたいと思います。
We have no children so we don’t have many ‘families’, it’s only my husband’s brothers’ and their families, so it’s not easy to get into the mood of Christmas, but hopefully we’ll make a few occasions to go out and get into the mood soon.
