日本からのお友達と、今日はお昼前にアランデルを歩くことにしました。と言っても、アランデルは古い建物が素敵でチャーミングな街（日本人的には「村」の方がしっくりするくらい小さな街）ですが、本当に小さいので、お店の中を覗かなければゆっくり歩いても片道１０分くらいじゃないでしょうか。古くから様子が変わっていない街なので、１９２０年台のイギリスが舞台の実話を元にした「Wicked Little Letters」というオリビア・コールマンさんが主演の映画の一部がここで撮影されました。特に見る物があるわけではないのですが、ゆっくり教会の方まで歩いてUターンして、ランチをしにティールームまで戻りました。
Today we decided to walk in Arundel with the friend who is staying with us. We left home so we would arrive in Arundel about 11:20 and walked up and down the hill, then had lunch there It’s a very charming little town but it really is small so unless you spend some time in shops it probably takes about 10 minutes one way even when you walk slowly. As it looks very much like it used to look in old days, they filmed some of the scenes of “Wicked Little Letters (Olivia Colman played the main character) here. There aren’t any particular places to spend time in, so we just walked slowly up to the church, then walked back down the hill to a tearoom for lunch.
今日は雲は多めで時々少し暗い雲がやって来たりもしましたが、概ね良いお天気でした。
Although there were quite a lot of large clouds today, which sometimes covered above us, it was mostly quite nice weather.
左側は、Pallant of Arundel というお店で、時々チーズやちょっと特別なヨーロッパからのお菓子などを購入しています。今日は、サラミやチーズなどをデリで買い、そのお隣のお肉屋さんでもポークを買って来ました。
The left building is “Pallent of Arundel”, where we sometimes buy things like cheese and sweets from outside the UK. We also bought some Pork Shoulder at the butcher next door.
坂道を上ったところには、アランデル城があります。
There is Arundel Castle up the hill.
