We went to “Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa” for afternoon tea on Tuesday. Although Afternoon Tea is very English, sandwiches and cakes at Afternoon Tea in England aren’t very sophisticated, but rather ‘homey’ so I don’t think they are special to most Japanese. However manor houses and their gardens are very English and something people cannot see in Japan so we chose to do this more for the setting than the afternoon tea itself. I would like my friend to be able to experience something very “English/British” while she is with us.
I was very worried how hot it would be but fortunately by this time some clouds were around and it was actually very pleasant under the shade in the garden. I think it was very hot and stuffy inside, though.
On the top tier of the cake stand we had cups of chocolate mousse, the 2nd tier had 3 different cakes, then on the bottom were the scones and sandwiches.
A little ‘mascot’ of Osaka Expo, which my friend sometimes includes in her photos.
Sandwiches and cakes are just what you would expect in England, the scones were a bit dry but soft so I would say better than many.
