今日の夕食は、チキンの胸肉をスパイスやレモン汁、玉ねぎ麹、オリーブオイルにマリネして焼いたものとサラダ、というシンプルなものでした。
昨日、お肉屋さんに明日使うビーフをピックアップしに行った時に買ったチキンの胸肉で、かなり大きかったので１つだけお願いしたところ、お肉屋さんはサッと皮を剥いで薄く暑さをスライスし始めました。皮は使わないつもりだったので良かったのですが、えぇ、なんで薄くしちゃうの？でも、あっという間にスライスされてしまったので、ま、いいか、とそのままいただいて来て、４枚に薄くスライスされたものを使いました。
黄色い皮でお友達から美味しいとお聞きしていたチキンで、多分、地鳥なのだと思います。臭みがあったら嫌だなと少し心配でしたが全然なく、美味しくいただきました。
サラダの中身は、ミニトマト、アボカド、フェンネル、サラダ菜類。フェンネルがアクセントになって美味しかったので、次回はもっと入れようと思います。
デザートはフレッシュの苺とピスタチオのジェラート。苺は今が一番美味しいときと聞きましたが、ゴリゴリしていて甘くなく、あまり美味しいとは言えないです、日本の苺のように甘い苺は、イギリスでもここでも食べたことがありません。
Today’s dinner was very simple: chicken breast marinaded in spices, lemon juice, onion koji and olive oil.
We bought the chicken breast at the butcher where our friend buys her meat. We mainly went there to pick up the beef we’ll use tomorrow and bought the chicken breast at the same time. When we asked for one of the chicken breasts, the butcher peeled the skin off and started to slice the thickness. I didn’t mind the skin peeled off as I wasn’t planning to use it but I wasn’t planning to have such thin slices. It was done very quickly and we couldn’t stop him with our poor Italian, so we took it as 4 thin slices and just cooked them quickly in a pan.
Our friend told us that the chicken there was really good, they have very yellow skin, I guess they are organic and properly grown. I was a little worried of it having a strong gamy taste but it didn’t, at all, very nice.
The salad had mini tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, fennel, salad leaves. The fennel was a nice accent, I would add more next time.
For dessert we had fresh strawberries with pistachio gelato. We were told that the strawberries at the moment are delicious, the best time for them, but I cannot say they are very nice, they are very hard, almost crunchy, not very juicy and not sweet, quite tart. I haven’t had as sweet strawberries as those in Japan, either in England or here.
