インドのホテルでは宿泊者が参加出来るホテル内のツアーがあるところが多く、ほぼ毎日一定の時間に行われるようでした。無料のところが多かったですが、デリーのインペリアルホテルでは有料（値段は忘れましたが、結構なお値段だったような気がします）のアートツアーと呼ばれるツアーがありました。宿泊したホテルの多くが素晴らしいホテルで歴史ある建物でしたので出来ればどのホテルでもツアーに参加したかったのですが、スケジュールがきつくて少しはのんびり出来る時間もないとバテそうでしたので、ほとんどのホテルであきらめました。参加したのは、ムンバイのタージマハールホテルとこのデリーのインペリアルホテルのみです。

In India, many hotels run “behind the scenes” tours, they seem to run at certain time of the day every day.  Many of them were free but the Imperial Hotel in Delhi runs an “Art Tour” with some fee (I cannot remember how much but it was more than I expected).  We would have liked to take tours of all the special hotels we stayed at but our schedule was quite tight and we also needed some time to realx so we didn’t take many tours.  We took a free tour of the Taj  Hotel in Mumbai and also this Art Tour.

インペリアルホテルは、１９３１年にデリーに建てられたのですが、デリーでは初めて建てられた豪華ホテルだそうです。ビクトリア様式、コロニアル様式、アール・デコー様式をミックスした建物で、多くのアートが飾られています。

The Imperial in Delhi was built in 1931, apparently the first luxury hotel in Delhi.  It’s a mixture of Victorian, Colonial & Art Deco, and it houses a lot of art.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

こちらは、Patiala Pegというバーですが、この下の写真のテーブルにはガンジー、ネルー、ジンナーが集まり、インドの独立とパキスタンの誕生が決定された場所だそうです。

Pandit Nehru, Mahatama Gandhi, Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Lord Mountbatten met at this bar “Patiala Peg” at the table below to discuss the partition of India and creation of Pakistan.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

こちらのレストランは先日も書きました「スパイスルート」というアジア料理のレストランですが、内装に７年かけて完成されたそうです。壁や柱の絵はケララのGuruvayurというお寺のミューラルのペインターが野菜や植物からとった染料を使って描いたもので、レストランは９つのセクションに分けられそれぞれ人生の１部を表しているのだそうです。

This is their Asian restaurant, “Spice Route”, which took 7 years to complete.  It’s handpainted with vegetable and flower dyes by mural painters brought in especially from a temple in Guruvayur in Kerarla.  The restaurant is divided into nine different sections, each representing a part of the journey of life.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

今回インドで泊まった豪華ホテル（ムンバイのタージマハールホテル、ウダイプールのレイクパレス、ジャイプールのランバパレス、デリーのインペリアルホテル）の中で、夫はこのホテルが一番のお気に入りとのことでした。英国の影響が強くみられるからだと思います。どこも素敵でしたが、わたしはムンバイのタージマハールホテルがインドらしくてセンスも良く好きでした。

Out of 4 luxury hotels we stayed at in India (The Taj Mahal in Mumbai, The Lake Palace in Udaipur, Rambagh Palace in Jaipur and The Imperial In Delhi) my husband’s favourite was The Imperial, I guess because it has a strong British influence.  I liked all of them but my favourite was the Taj Mahal Hotel because it was so India-looking but in a tasteful way.
