デボン２日目の夕食は、年配のお友達とエクセターのイタリアンに行きました。お友達とお呼びするべきかどうかわかりませんが、その昔、エクセターでホームステイをしたときに最初の何ヶ月か英語学校のクラスで担当していただいた当時の先生です。わたしがたまたまイギリス人の夫と結婚したので、日本に帰ってからもほとんど毎年イギリスに行く機会があり、ずっと交流が続いていて、年に１度か２度会って（２年前に亡くなったホームステイ先のお母さんと３人で会ったことも何度もありますし、夫と３人のことも度々）、後はメールで時々お話しをしています。コロナ以来、クリスマスに行く時はコロナの菌やインフルエンザや風邪の菌が蔓延していると思うので遠慮していますが、この時期に行く時はお声かけしています。そうそう、今日がお誕生日なので娘さんご家族とお祝いされたはず。 On the 2nd day in Devon, we had dinner with our friend in an Italian in Exeter. デボンでの２日目の目的地は、デボンに近いところにあるコーンウォルのナショナルトラスト、「Cotehele」でした。このマナーハウスは１４８５年に建てられたそうで、５００年の間ほとんど変わらない状態で保たれているそうです。印象的なのは、どのお部屋も壁のほとんどがタペストリーで埋まっていたこと。中に教会もありました。 On our 2nd day in Devon, we were driving the countryside heading to a National Trust in Cornwall, “Cothele“.
