今日はロックダウン以来初めて、夫と２人で外食しました。この１ヶ月ほどの間にお友達とレストランやパブでランチは何度かしていますが、特に理由がなく夜外食するのは１年半ぶりです。アランデルという車ですぐのところにある街のタイ料理のレストランに行ってきました。

ロックダウンの前には金曜日はよく外食していたのですが、アランデルにタイ料理のレストランがあるのは知りませんでした。タイ料理は随分定着していて、結構田舎にもあるのですが、この辺りにはないなと思っていたのです。ロックダウンの２、３ヶ月前にオープンしたのだそうです。

アルンデルはとても素敵な街ですが、とても小さくて特に見るところがあるわけでもないので、ディナーの時くらいしか行かず、久しぶりでした。７時半だとまだこちらは昼間のような明るさです。

My husband and I, just two of us, went out for dinner for the first time since lockdown.  We have eaten out a few times with our friends or families to catch up at lunch time at a pub or a restaurant but this was the first time for us to go out for dinner to a restaurant without any other reason.  We went to a Thai restaurant in Arundel, which is very near us.

Before locdown we used to eat out on Fridays but we didn’t know there was a Thai restaurant in Arundel.  Thai food has been very popular in England for a long time and you can see Thai restaurants even in the countryside but we thought there wasn’t any around here.  Apparently they opened a couple of months before the first lockdown started.

We love Arundel, which is a very charming little town, but it is very small and there isn’t anything to see or do other than eating out so we hadn’t been there for a long time.  This is how bright it is at 7.30pm.

 

 

 

Thai Time というカジュアルなレストラン。賑わっていました。

The restaurant was “Thai Time”, a very casual restaurant.  It was quite busy.

 

 

前菜に、揚げ春巻きとコーンのフリッターをオーダーしました、どちらも美味しかったです。

For starters, we had deep-fried vegetable spring rolls and corn fritters, both very nice.

 

 

 

メインは、チキンのマッサマンカレー、ポークのラーブ(サラダ)、空芯菜のチリ炒め。結構甘めの味付けで個人的にはもう少しタマリンドで酸味を加えた方が好みですが、味の系統は食べ慣れたマッサマンカレーの味付けで美味しかったです。

Then we had Chicken Massaman Curry, Pork Laab (pork salad) and stir-frid morning glory.  The Chicken Massaman curry was quite sweet, it was quite nice but I personally like it with a little more tamarind.  Still, it was tasty.

 

 

ポークのラーブは、ちょっと違う、という感じ。甘いお醤油が入ってるのかな？シンプルにライム汁とナンプラーとお砂糖の味付けの方が好み、ハーブももう少しほしいところ。でも、まぁ、これはこれで美味しかったです。奥にあるのは、モーニンググローリー（空芯菜）のチリ炒め、これも美味しかったです。

Pork Laab (salad).  It was a little strange, maybe they use sweet soy sauce?  I prefer it with simple dressing of lime juice, fish sauce and sugar and also with more herbs.  It tasted good, just didn’t seem like Laab.  The green ones are morning glory stir-fried with chill, which was very good.

 

 

ジャスミンライス１つと餅米１つオーダーしましたが、多くて、ジャスミンライスは結構残りました。

We ordered 1 Jasmine rice and 1 Sticky rice.  There was quite a lot of the Jasmine rice and we probably left about a half of it.

 

 

デザートにバナナのフリッター、バニラアイス添え。アイスは美味しかったですが、フリッターは衣がとても硬くて好みではなかったです。

For a dessert, we shared Banana Fritter with vanilla ice cream.  The ice cream was very nice but I wasn’t very keen on the banana fritter, I found the batter too tough.

 

 

サービスも良かったですし食事も美味しかったですし、夜の外食はとても久しぶりで、なんだかとても楽しかったです。まだ室内ではマスクが義務付けられていますが（席に着いたらお客さんは外しても良いですが）、もうすぐそれも任意になるようです。そうなると、レストランなどで働いている方たちの中にもしない人が増えるのでしょうから、少し心配ですね。

The service was good, the food was good, and we really enjoyed having dinner at a restaurant.  At the moment, it is compulsory to wear a face mask but soon we won’t have to so I’m guessing many people working at restaurants will stop wearing them, which worries me.
