今日、クラフトルームとユーティリティーがある廊下部分をお掃除の方に来ていただいてお掃除していただいて、すっきりきれいになりました。ささっとお掃除はしたもののすごい埃だったので本棚など高いところも含めて全部綺麗に拭くのは大変そうだったので、お掃除の方に来ていただきました。

We had cleaners come in today to thoroughly clean the craft room and the untility area (corridor) and these are now looking good.  Although I did try to clean the craft room quickly, it was so dusty that it would have been a big job to clean thoroughly by myself, especially the many book shelves.

廊下からクラフトルームに入ってすぐのところに作っていただいた、パントリー 兼収納棚をまだアップしていませんでした。お部屋に入って右側の奥にある扉の向こうには、暖房のための大きなボイラーが入っているのでその幅で壁を作っていただいて、冷蔵庫と冷凍庫を入れました。

I hadn’t properly blogged the pantry and storage areas at the entrance to the craft room.  The right side of the door has a big boiler for the heating so we had a wall built with the boiler cupboard inside the storage area and made space for a new fridge and a freezer.

以前も書いたことがあるのですが、キッチンについている冷蔵庫は小さめで、しかも奥の壁に霜がつき、それが流れて奥の方にものを入れていると中に水が入ってしまっていました。わたしがぶつぶついうので夫が新しくMieleの高級冷蔵庫を買ってくれたのですが、これがまた、やっぱり奥の壁に霜がついて時々それが溶かされて流れるというもので、最初にあったものよりはマシですが、やはり奥までものを入れられません。ネットで写真を見てみると Miele などイギリスやヨーロッパ製のものには奥の下の方にお水が流れるように流す道が作られていて穴があいているのですが、韓国製やアメリカ製のものにはそれがなかったので、今回は Samsung のものを買ったところ、全く水滴も霜もつきません。Miele よりずっと安いですが。

I’ve written this before but the fridge in the kitchen isn’t very large and the rear wall of the fridge gets frosted, then that frost gets melted and runs down.  If we put anything in the fridge all the way up against that wall, they got all wet because of this.  This means we cannot use all of the space.  I was complaining all the time about it because we often found leafy vegetables had gone off for this reason, and my husband bought a new Miele fridge – supposedly one of the best models – to replace it – but it was just the same!  It’s back wall still got frosted – not as badly as the first one but we still see spots of frost, which will melt and run down.  I researched online and found that all the European and English fridges including Miele has a line on the bottom of the back wall that water will run through and a hole for the water to escape, but Korean ones and American ones didn’t.  So did this new fridge we went to a shop and made sure that is the case and decided to buy Samsung’s this time.  Much cheaper than Miele’s.

冷蔵庫と冷凍庫が一緒になったものではなく、冷蔵庫１台と冷凍庫１台買ったので、容量にも余裕がありますし、冷凍庫はしゃがまなくて良いのと引き出しだけでなく大きな棚もあるので使いやすいです。

Rather than a combined fridge/freezer we bought a fridge and a freezer so we have more capacity and I find easier to use them , especially the freezer because we don’t always have to squat down or bend down.  It has large shelves as well as drawers, which I find useful.

これまで、冷凍庫が小さくてパンを冷凍する余裕もなかったですし、週に１度のスーパーのデリバリーの日は冷蔵庫が一杯になるので前日に出来るだけ場所を確保しなくてはならず、これまでずっとアメリカサイズの大きな冷蔵庫を使っていたので（香港とシンガポールでは２つありました）とてもストレスだったのですが、やっと余裕が出来て嬉しいです。

Until we had these, we haven’t been able to buy extra bread to freeze as there just wasn’t enough space in the small kitchen freezer.  The fridge was also often quite packed and I had to try to make some free space on the day before the supermarket’s delivery day.  All this was a bit stressful for me as until we moved to England we’ve always had a large American size fridge/freezer – we actually had 2 of them in Hong Kong and Singaore.

 

 

ドアを入って左側には、このように棚を作っていただきました。ガス入りのお水、ビール、缶詰類、１年分購入しているのオリーブオイル、時々ロンドンからオーダーしている日本食関係のもの、場所を取る調理器（ホットプレート、ピザ窯などなど）、などイギリスではみなさんガレージに保管されますが我が家にはガレージはないですし、キッチンにある収納では足りないので、便利になりました。これで、キッチンの収納に入りきらず困っているものを置くところが出来ました。他にも日用品の予備のものやあまり使わない食器なども収納する予定です。

On the left side from the door, we had these shelves made.  In England most people keep things like bottled water, beer, extra tins of food, a yearly supply of olive oil (not that many English people have it but we do), Japanese food that I order now and again from London, large cooking equipment (like Pizza oven, hot plate etc), but we don’t have garage and we don’t have enough storage in the kitchen, so this is going to be very useful.  We’ll be able to make our kitchen more tidy now!  We’ll also use this space for storing stock of things like toilet paper, kitchen paper, cleaning stuff etc and some crockery and glasses etc that we don’t use often.

 

 

ということで、これからキッチンの収納を再度オーガナイズして、このパントリー兼収納庫の整理とクラフトルームの荷物整理に頑張らなくては！当分かかりそうです。

So, I’ll be working hard to re-organise the kitchen, organise this pantry/storage and my craft room for a while.  I expect it’ll take quite a long time.
