My Neighbour Totoro

As I wrote earlier, we went to see the play “My Neighbour Totoro” on Tuesday last week in London.  It was on here for a while last year or the year before and as someone our friends know is performing is in it and it is based on a very well-known Japanese animation we wanted to see it but all the tickets were sold out then.  We heard it was now on again with a longer run and it was easy to get tickets this time.  To be honest, I’m not that interested in animations so I didn’t even know the story, even though of course I knew of “My Neighbour Totoro” and I’ve seen the drawings of Totoro many times.

“Spirited Away”, which we went to see last year was played in Japanese (I think the most of the cast was from Japan) with English subtitles but this one is being played in English (though the songs were in Japanese first followed by some sort of translated version and here and there some simple Japanese phrases were used).

To be honest, there wasn’t much story in the first half and it was very slow, it felt like we were just watching 2 children (in the play) screaming and running around and we were a little bored but we enjoyed the second half more.

After watching this play, I had an ear worm going “Tonari-no Totoro, Totoro 🎵” for a long time, which was quite annoying.
