やっと、ロンドンの最終日まで来ました！
Finally, the last day in London !!
今年の夏、シンガポールで親しくしていただいていたお友達から嬉しいご連絡がありました。「イギリスに移住することになりました！」ええー？とびっくり。ご主人様とお嬢さんと３人でもう直ぐイギリスに移住します、と。最初はご主人様の転勤で海外赴任になったのだと思ったのですが、そうではないとのこと。色々聞きたい気持ちは山々でしたがビザのことやお家探しなど色々大変そうだったので、お目にかかるまでお聞きするのは我慢していました。そのお友達と、ロンドンの最終日にランチをご一緒出来ました。
This summer, a friend of mine that I made in Singapore contacted me to let me know she (and her family) was moving to England, which gave me a big surprise! I sort of assumed that her husband was moved to England on his job for a limited time but she said that they were actually settling down in England, at least for now, without a plan to go back to Japan in a short time. I had lots of questions for her but I held myself back because I knew she was very busy with making a lot of arrangements for visas, finding a house etc. So I was so looking forward to seeing her for lunch in London so I could ask those questions.
シンガポールに住んでいた時のようにどこにもタクシーで１０分の距離とは違い、我が家はロンドンから結構離れていて、車だとロンドンの南の端っこまで１時間半ほどですが、ロンドンに入ると車が渋滞していますしロンドンも広いのでどこに行くにも結構時間がかかります。お友達はロンドンでも北の方にお住まいということで、同じイギリスにいながら直ぐにお目にかかれないのがもどかしい気持ちでしたが、落ち着かれたらもう少し頻繁に会えるだろうと思っています。
Unlike how we were able to see each other often in Singapore, as there we could get to most places in 10 minutes in a taxi, we live quite far from London. It takes us about an hour and a half or so to the south edge of London but once you are there the traffic is congested and it takes a long time to get anywhere. My friend lives on the north side of town so it isn’t that easy to get together even though we are now living in the same country, which is quite frustrating. I’m hoping that once she settles down we will be able to get together a little more often.
わたしたちが２年前に日本で1ヶ月ほど過ごした時に、東京から神戸まで会いに来てくださったお友達なので、お目にかかるのは２年ぶりくらいでした。でも、シンガポールでしょっちゅうお目にかかれていた頃からは７、８年経っているでしょうか。
When my husband and I spent a month in Japan a couple of years ago, she came all the way from Tokyo to see us in Kobe so it’d been about 2 years since we met last. However, I suppose it’s been 7 or 8 years since the time when we were seeing each other often in Singapore.
ランチの場所は、お友達が提案してくださった中の１つから「The Wolseley」にしました、わたしたちは初めて行ったレストランです、宿泊していたホテルから歩いて２０分くらいのところでした。
We chose “The Wolseley” from a few restaurants that she had suggested. We’d never been there before but it was about 20 minutes walk from the hotel we were staying at.
夫はランチコースから、前菜はレバームース、メインはチキン・コルドンブルー。
My husband took the lunch course menu and his starter was Chicken Liver Mousse and the main was Chicken Cordon Bleu.
わたしとお友達はチキンサンド。美味しかったです。
My friend and I both had Chicken Sandwich, which was very nice.
夫はデザートも。バナナ・スプリット。クリームもアイスも多すぎ！
My husband had a dessert as well – Banana Split. Too much whipped cream and too much ice cream!
とても素敵なレストランでした。ロンドンには時々行っていますが、いつもどうしても行きたいレストランに行くと新しく開拓出来ず、新しい情報も入ってこないので、今回素的なレストランを知れて嬉しかったです。そして、お友達と再会できて本当に嬉しかったです！お友達とのキャッチアップにはとても時間が足りなかったので、是非、また近いうちに会えますように！
The restaurant was lovely and the food was good. We go to London now and again but our time is limited and we don’t have time to try different restaurants as we have a few favourite restaurants we don’t want to miss and we don’t get much information on restaurants in London so it was lovely to find a good restaurant. It was so nice to be able to see her again!! We didn’t have enough time to properly catch up with each other, I hope I can see her soon again!
