今日はとても久しぶりにお目にかかるお友達ご夫婦とランチをご一緒しました。知り合ったのは香港に住んでいる時ですが、ニュージーランドの方で今はニュージーランドにお住まいです。お嬢さんご家族がイギリスにお住まいなので、久しぶりにイギリスにいらしてしばらくお嬢さんご家族のところに滞在されているので、お目にかかれることになりました。大体真ん中くらいにあるパブで待ち合わせました。Farnham という街の近くにある、「The Spotted Cow」というパブ、うちからは１時間ちょっとでした。
We had lunch with our friends from NZ whom we hadn’t seen for quite a few years. We first met them when we were living in Hong Kong but they now live in NZ and are visiting their daughter and her family here. My husband did a little research and suggested to meet at a pub, “The Spotted Cow“, near Farnham, as it’s more or less half way between where they are staying and us, it took us a little more than an hour to get there.
それぞれがオーダーしたメインが出てくるまで、パンとオリーブをつまみました。
We shared a plate of bread and olives to have until our main dishes came.
肝心のメインは写真を取り忘れていました（笑）。夫はステーキ＆エールパイ、わたしは薪のピザ釜があるとのことだったのでペパロニやチリが乗ったピッツァにしましたが、ピッツァは底がべちゃっとしていて今一つ、夫のパイは美味しかったそうですし、お友達のメインも美味しかったようでした。
Well, I totally forgot to take pictures of our main dishes! My husband had Steak & Ale Pie and I had a pizza with pepperoni & chilli because they had a proper wood pizza oven. Unfortunately the bottom of the pizza was soggy so not so great. My husband’s pie was apparently very good and I think our friends enjoyed their main dishes, too.

We all had a dessert as well, I had Lemon Meringue Pie.
夫はイート・メス。
My husband had Eton Mess – it was huge.
１２時半に待ち合わせて、帰りの車に乗ったのは３時半。長くお目にかかっていなかったので話は尽きずでしたが、お目にかかれてとても嬉しかったです。ニュージーランドは大好きな場所ですが、イギリスから遠すぎて。。。（涙）。また近いうちにイギリスでお目にかかれますように。
We met at 12:30pm and parted around 3:30pm. As we hadn’t met for many years there was so much to catch up, it was lovely to see them. We love New Zealand but it is just so far from England… I hope they’ll visit England again soon and we’ll be able to see them then.
帰り道の途中、以前一度義弟の家に行く途中で寄ったことがある Milfordの「Secretts」というファームショップに寄りました。以前行ったときはまだロックダウンが完全に解除されていないときで中に入れる人数が限られていて、道順も決まっていてゆっくり見ることが出来なかったのでまた行きたいねと言っていたのでした。ファームショップとしてはかなり規模が大きいと思います。お肉屋さんもあるし、チーズもたくさんの種類を置かれていますし、お野菜や果物の種類も豊富でした。
On our way back, we stopped at a farm shop “Secretts” in Milford. We’d been there once before on our way to my husband’s brother’s but at that time there were still a lot of restrictions related to Covid, only a few people were allowed to be inside and we had to walk only one way so we couldn’t enjoy wandering around. I think it’s the largest farm shop that we’ve been to, they have a butcher, a very large selections of cheese, and good selections of fruits and vegetables.
また、ヒートウェーブが来ているそうで、わたしたちが住むあたりはそれほどでもなかったと思いますが、ランチをしたパブの辺りは２７、８度まで上がっていたみたいです。とはいえ、わたしたちは３時過ぎまでパブの中にいて外に出た時に暑いとは思わなかったので、湿度が低くてそれほど暑くはなかったのだと思います。お天気予報を見ると明日以降は２１．２度なので暑かったのは今日だけだったのでしょうか。
Apparently we are having another heatwave. I don’t think it was so hot where we live but it was 27C or 28C around where we had lunch. However, we were in the pub until a little after 3:00pm and it didn’t seem hot when we went outside, I guess the humidity was low and it didn’t feel so hot. Looking at the weather forecast, the temperature in the next 10 days are around 22C so was it just today when it got hot??
