チチェスターに新しいインド料理（インド・チャイニーズ）のレストラン「The Mowgli」がオープンしたと見かけたので、行ってみました。ブライトンなど数カ所にある中の１件。チチェスターでは何故だかインド料理レストランが３件並んでいて、その真ん中のお店。ストリートフードのお店ということでサイトを見ると、メニューには他の多くのインド料理のレストランにはないものも色々とあり、南インドのドーサもあったのでそれをサクッといただくつもりで行ったのですが、今日までの３日間はグランドオープニングということでシェフのテイスティングメニューだけしかなく、それをいただきました。
A new Indo Chinese restaurant “The Mowgli” opened in Chichester, I read, so we tried it for lunch yesterday. It’s a chain and there is one in Brighton as well. I don’t know why but there are 3 Indian restaurants in a row in this street in Chichester and this one is in the middle. When I checked their menu they had some Dosa as well so that was what we were going to have for lunch yesterday, but we found out once we got there they only served a special chef menu (£20) for their opening 3 days until today, so we had that.
パパドムも召し上がりますか？と聞かれたので、はい、と言ったので持って来てくれましたが、後でお勘定を見るとしっかりチャージされていました。しかも、今揚げたものではなく、多分市販のものなのかサクサクしていなくて、大丈夫なものもありましたがほとんど油が酸化していて食べられず。
They asked me if we’d like to have papadom so I said yes but later we found they charged for it on the bill. These were not freshly cooked papadom as we had expected, they were, I guess, already made ones that they buy. There were a few pieces that were OK but the majority was rancid.
前菜は、ベジタリアンセットかノンベジタリアンセット、だったので、２人ともベジタリアンを選びました。パニエのティッカ、カリフラワーのモンゴル風、ケール、ほうれん草、玉ねぎのパコラ。カリフラワーは甘過ぎましたが、他は、まぁ普通。
For the starter, they had a vegetarian set or a non vegetarian set and we both ordered the vegetarian set. Paneer Tikka, Cauliflower Manchurian, Kale, Spinach & onion Pakora. The cauliflower was much too sweet but the rest was OK.
メインは３種類から選べ、夫はバターチキン、わたしはチキンコーマを選びましたが、どちらも甘く、特にチキンコーマはすごく甘かったです。もう１つ選べたものがスパイシーだったので、それにすべきでした。サイドとしてポテトとナンとピラフライスがついてきます。ピラフライスがとても美味しかったです。
We had 3 choices for the main, my husband chose Butter Chicken, I chose Chicken Korma. Both were sweet, specially the Chicken Korma. The other dish was supposed to be ‘spicy’ so I should have chosen that. It comes with a potato dish, Naan and pilau rice, the pilau rice was very good.
まずい、ということではないのですが（チキンコーマは甘すぎると思いました）、スーパーのテイクアウェイレベルなので、それならスーパーのテイクアウェイでいいかな、と思います。ドーサなどは食べてみたいので、もう１度くらいはトライするかなと思います。スペシャルメニューが20ポンドということで、他にビールとガス入りのお水、チャージされていた酸化したパパドムとで52ポンド（10360円）、とほほ。
Not that it was bad (though chicken korma was too sweet) but it was very similar to the supermarket takeaway we have had at home so in that case take away is cheaper and easier. I still want to try Dosa so I guess we’ll try it again. We had two half pints of Indian beer and a bottle of water (plus rancid papadom) and it was £52.
