今日は、久しぶりに「Haskins」という大きなガーデンセンターに行って来ました。イギリスのガーデンセンターは大きなところが多く、ガーデニング関係だけではなく色々なものが売られていて、大抵、カフェもあります。お昼ごろに到着して、まずはランチ。いつもオーダーするローストした地中海野菜のサンドイッチをオーダーしようと思ったのですが、ありません、メニューが変わっていました。煮たような感じかな、とレモン風味のロースト野菜のサンドイッチにしました。夫は、ステーキサンド。（テーブルと椅子も新しくなっていました。）前のローストした地中海野菜のサンドイッチにはトマトベースのスパイシーなソースが塗られていて美味しかったのですが、今日のレモン風味のロースト野菜のサンドイッチはなんのソースもなく焼いたお野菜だけだったので、物足らない感じがしました。パンは以前と変わらず美味しかったです。

We went to Haskins today, we hadn’t been there for a while.  We first had lunch.  I was going to have my usual, which is roasted Mediterranean vegetable sandwich, but we couldn’t find it, as it looks like their menu has changed.  So I ordered their Lemon Flavoured Roasted Vegetable Sandwich instead, which was OK but on the boring side.  The one I used to have had nice spicy sauce as well as a lot of vegetables and cheese (I don’t mind not having cheese because there was actually too much of it) but just roasted vegetables wasn’t quite as good.  The bread was just as nice, though.  My husband had Steak & Cheese Sandwich.

バックガーデンの大きなポット４つの植え替え（今はチューリップの亡骸が入っています）もしなくてはいけないのですが、フロントガーデンに植えてあったダリアがこの２年ほど綺麗に咲かず葉っぱもいつも汚かったので抜いてしまったためがらんとしているので、ルーピンとダリアとコスモスを買ってみました。

We need to get some plants to put in our four large patio pots (which have dead tulips at the moment) in the back garden but we hadn’t bought any yet.  In the front garden, we had a lot of dahlias until last year but they weren’t looking very good in the last couple of years so we pulled them out (except the 2 dinner plate dahlias), so there is a lot of gaps to fill, so we bought lupins, dahlias and cosmos.

ルーピンは夫が大好きなので３年くらい続けて植えてみたのですが、毎回駄目になってしまいます。これまではバックガーデンに植えていたので、今回はフロントガーデンに植えてみることにしました。３株買いました。２株は濃いピンク、もう１株はもう少し薄めのピンク。根付いてくれると良いのですが。

My husband loves lupins so we planted them for three years in a row in the back garden but they didn’t survive, they die for one reason or another.  However, we thought they might do better in the front garden so we bought 3 of them, 2 are dark pink and 1 is light pink.  I hope they’ll do well here.

ダリアは、違う種類を１株ずつ、２株買いました、もう少し買いたそうと思っていますが余り種類がなかったので、ネットオーダーにしようかと思います。

We bought just 2 dahlias, each different.  We need more but we didn’t see many kinds so maybe I’ll order online.

コスモスは小さな小さな苗なので写真は撮りませんでしたが、６つ買って、右側に３つ、左側に３つ植えてみました。

We also bought cosmos but they were very small plug plants so no photo, we bought a set of 6 and planted 3 on one side of the house and 3 on the other.

でも、少し心配があります。特にコスモスの苗は小さいので、何かに食べられるのではという心配です。何か、というのは、野うさぎ。２日前にわたしがフロントガーデンのお手入れをしようとしたところ、花壇を野うさぎが駆け抜けて行きました！びっくり！リスはよく見かけますが、野うさぎは初めてみました。お隣の方も見たことないそうです。そして昨日、ベッドルームからバックガーデンを見ていたら、野うさぎ発見！その後、昨日も今日も夫が芝生の上で見かけたそうです。可愛いのですが、野うさぎはお野菜や植物を食べるそうなので心配です。

However, I am worried that the plug plant cosmos may get eaten because we saw a hare for the last couple of days.  A couple of days ago when I went to the front garden to do some gardening, I saw a hare running through the flower bed!!  We see squirrels often (although not for a while) but not a hare!  Our next door neighbour says she’s never seen one.  This morning, when I looked out of the window in our bedroom, I spotted it in the flower bed in the back garden.  Since them my husband saw it in the back garden lawn a couple of times.  Hares eat vegetables and plants so it may eat our little cosmos plug plants since they’re still nice and tender….
