今日は去年の夏にイギリスに引っ越して来られたシンガポール時代のお友達とブライトンでランチの予定をしていたのですが、少し前に諸事情で延期になりました。なのですが、たまたま、夫がブライトンのどこに車を停めようかと検索していて「ブライトンに Dishoom があるよ！」ということに。Dishoom の傘下にありDishoom Permit Room と言って Dishoom とは少し違うコンセプトのバー兼カフェのようなのですが、メニューを見ると Dishoom と同じものがたくさんあったので近いうちに行かなくっちゃと言っていたので、延期になった時点で代わりに Dishoom Permit Room に行ってみることにしました。
We were going to have lunch in Brighton with a friend, who moved to England in the summer last year, but that has been postponed. However, when my husband was searching Brighton for a car park for the occasion, he told me he found Dishoom! It was called Dishoom Permit Room, which is under the Dishoom Group and is a bar & cafe that serves food as well. We like Dishoom so we always go to one of their restaurants in London when we are there so we got quite excited! When the lunch today was postponed, we decided to go to Brighton anyway and have lunch at this “Dishoom Permit Room”.
ブライトンもそれほど大きな街というわけではないのですが、わたしたちが住むところから一番近いチチェスターに比べるとかなり大きくて都会という感じがして、お店もレストランも沢山あります。我が家から距離的には80キロとそれほどの距離ではなく早ければ４５分くらいで行けるのですが、途中の道の交通量が多いので場合によっては２時間くらいかかることもあり、ちょっとランチに行くにはちょっと遠くて何度かしか行ったことがありません。
Although Brighton isn’t a large town, it is much larger than Chichester, which is the closest town from us, and it does feel more lively and civilised. There are many more shops and restaurants, too. It’s only about 80km from us so it can take us only about 45 minutes if the traffic isn’t heavy but it’s often heavy and sometimes can take nearly 2 hours so it seems a bit too far for us to go for a casual lunch and we hadn’t been there often.
ロンドンの Dishoom ではいつの前菜に野菜のサモサをオーダーするのですが、今日はチキンパフにしてみました。思っていたのとは違ってパフペーストリーでしたが、美味しかったです。
At Dishoom in London, we always get vegetable samosas but today we tried their Spicy Chicken Puff instead as a starter. This was different from what I expected as it was puff pastry (I was expecting different dough) but it was quite nice.
最近お気に入りのブロッコリーのサラダ。デイツやレーズン、チリ、ナッツ、ライムなどが入っています。美味しくいただきました。
Broccoli Salad, which we like. It has dates, raisins, chilli, and nuts, as well as broccoli, and is seasoned with lime juice. Very nice.

スィートポテト。持って来られたとき、夫もわたしも茄子だと思いましたが、確かにスィートポテトでした。中が白いタイプだったので日本のものみたいに甘いのかと思ったのですが、甘くなく、あまり味がなかったです、
We tried Sweet Potato on the side. When it came to the table both my husband and I thought it was aubergine, but it was actually sweet potato. As the flesh was white I thought it would be similar to the Japanese type and be very sweet, but it wasn’t, it was actually not sweet at all. I didn’t find it tasted of anything very much except the seasoning they put on top.
そして、ナン１つ。
We shared a naan.
いつもはライスとナンをオーダーするのですが今日は少なめにナン１つだけにしたので、まだ物足りず、かと言って甘いものを食べる気分ではなかったので（インドレストランのデザートはあまりチョイスがない）おつまみカテゴリーからピーナッツマサラというのをオーダーしてみました。細かく切ったトマトは赤玉ねぎとシャンツァイとピーナッツ、味付けはライム汁。美味しかったですが、おつまみにしては思っていたより量が多かったです。
We usually order rice as well as naan but today we only shared one naan, so we felt we wanted something more. We decided not to get a dessert because the choices of dessert at any Indian restaurants usually aren’t great, so we tried “Peanut Masala”. It had chopped tomato, onion, chilli & coriander leaves as well as peanuts. It was very nice but we thought it was too big a dish to be a little nibble.
ランチの後、街中を少し歩いて本屋さんに寄って戻って来ました。帰りは行き（行きは１時間２０分くらい）より道が空いていて、４０分くらいで帰って来れました。
After lunch, we walked in the streets a little, stopped at a book shop and came home. It took only 40 minutes or so to get back, whereas it took an hour and 20 minutes to go.
お天気予報が変わって今日と明日は「曇り時々晴れ、（一時雨）」という感じのお天気で太陽は出ていたのですが結構気温が低い上に、ブライトンは海からの風が強くてすごく寒かったです。それほど寒くなければもう少しぶらぶらしたかったのですが寒すぎて、すぐに本屋さんに逃げ込んでしまいました。でも、ランチは美味しかったですし、久しぶりに都会（？）の雰囲気を味わえて楽しかったです。
The weather forecast changed in the last minute and it has a cloud with a sun mark for today and tomorrow. When we were in Brighton it was very sunny but the temperature felt low and the wind from the sea was very strong, making it feel very cold. It was too cold to enjoy walking in the streets so we went into the bookshop quickly before leaving for home. Still we enjoyed the lunch very much and it was nice to be in a bigger town with a bit more buzz than we usually get in Chichester.
