昨日のディナーは、Simpson’s in the Strand でローストビーフ。結婚してすぐの頃から何度か行きましたが、随分前、多分20年くらい前にリノベーションで様子が変わって行かなくなったのですが、半年ほど前にまた昔のクラシカルなお部屋にリノベーションしたと聞いて、久しぶりに行ってみました。

We went to Simpson’s in the Strand for a roast beef dinner last night. We had dinner there a few times many many years in the times soon after we got married, but the last time was maybe 20 years ago or longer. We found then that they had made big changes and we didn’t like it as much so we stopped going. Recently we heard that they had renovated again about 6 months ago and this time it’s been done in a more classical, very much like old days, so we thought we’d try it.

大昔のことで細かくは覚えていませんが、確かに以前の雰囲気に戻っていました。ローストビーフは溶けるように柔らかく、とても美味しかったです。ローストポテトはイマイチでしたが、ヨークシャープディングはまぁまぁで昔より美味しいと思いました。

As it was such a long time ago we don’t remember the details but the restaurant did feel very similar to how it was before. The roast beef was melting tender and excellent. The roast potatoes weren’t great but the Yorkshire pudding wasn’t too bad and better than in previous times. Overall we really enjoyed the dinner.
