インド１０日目、ジャイプール。ランチの後、ジャンタール・マンタール（Jantar Mantar)とうUNESCO世界遺産指定の天体観測施設に行きました。ジャイ・シング２世が１７３４年に建設した天体観測施設で、正解で最大の石の日時計を含む１９種類もの天体観測機器があるそうです。ガイドさんがその代表的なものの仕組みを詳しく説明してくださり夫は興味深そうに聞いていましたが、わたしには高度すぎてさっぱりわかりませんでした。
India Trip Day 10 in Jaipur. After lunch, we went to Jantar Mantar, where there is a collection of nineteen architectural astronomical instruments built by the Rajput King Sawai Jai Singh II and completed in 1734. It features the world’s largest stone sundial, and is (another) UNESCO World Heritage site. The guide explained to us in detail how some of them work and my husband seemed to be listening to him with great interest (he’s a physicist) but it was much too complicated for me to understand.
近くにあるシティー・パレス。今も一部マハラジャの住居になっているそうです。
We also visited City Palace, which was close by. A part of it is still the Maharaja’s residence.
