今日は、Petworth のお肉屋さんとデリに買い物に出かけました。土曜日なので人が並んでいるお店もいくつかあり、お肉屋さんでも中にお１人お客さんがおられたので終わられるまで外で待ちました。並ぶときは２メートルの間隔を空けて並び、お肉屋さんのような小さなお店では１人ずつしか入れませんし、もっと大きなお店でも入場人数が制限されています。

We went to Petworth to get some food from the butcher and the deli there.  As it’s a Saturday, we saw some people queueing outside some of the shops, keeping a 2m distance between them.  The butcher is very small so only one person is allowed to go in at a time, and there was a customer inside when we got there so we waited until she came out.  This is the first time we saw so many queues in the town.

前回は先週の金曜日、久しぶりに雨が降った日だったのでそれほど感じなかったのですが、今日出かけて急にグリーンがふさふさしているように感じました。少し前まで冬の景色だったのが、すっかり春。お天気もよくて暖かく、気持ちの良い１日です。

When we went out last Friday, it was raining so we didn’t notice but today we noticed how green everywhere is along the way, how the leaves are full and the hedges have grown.  It looked quite wintery only a couple of weeks ago, but now it’s spring.  It is another beautiful sunny day here.

イギリスはロンドンも大好きですが、田舎の景色はもっと好きです。イギリスに遊びに来られてロンドンだけしか滞在されないのはもったいないな、といつも思っています。

Although I do love London, I love the countryside even more and I always felt it was such a shame that so many people visit England and see only London.

Petworth で見た藤の花、大きくて綺麗！車で走っていても藤の花やライラックがたくさん咲いていました。

Wisterias we saw in the market square in Petworth. We saw a lot of wisterias and lilacs when we were driving through the countryside.

日差しが強いので日陰でなくては歩けませんが、森の中は日陰がたくさんありますし、乾燥しているので風が吹くと涼しくて歩くには良い季節です。ピクニックもいいですよね。今年はどちらも出来ず残念ですが、来年を楽しみに。

I find the sun very strong here so I wouldn’t be able to walk much unless its in the shade, but we would enjoy walking in woods in this lovely weather and it would be lovely to have a picnic in a park under the shade of trees.  We cannot do these things this year, but hope we will next year.
