Family Dinner At Côte In Chichester

My husband’s younger brother and his wife were in Chichester today so we had dinner together – at “Côte on their suggestion.

Other than me, they all had 3 courses – starter, main & dessert.  My husband had Chicken, pork & mushroom terrine.

My husband and I had Steak Frittes.  The steak was so so thin – about 2mm.  I know it’s supposed to be thin but don’t think it’s supposed to be this thin.

For dessert my husband had Strawberry & Basil Pavlova.  Well, like I expected, it was not real Pavlova.  It was just creme fresh with fruits and some broken up totally crunchy meringue.  That is NOT a Pavlova!  I ordered Pavlova once or twice in England and got totally crunchy meringue although at least they were not broken into bits – and I decided people don’t know what Pavlova is here.  Pavlova has to be gooey inside and crispy outside, not completely crunchy all the way.  When it’s broken like today, that is Eton Mess!

I had Tarte Au Citron.  So-so.

We chatted a lot before parting.  I wrote the other day that we were worried about getting Covid at the wedding we went to a few weeks ago, and today we found out that many of the guests came down with Covid afterwards – including the bride and the groom, presumably getting it at the wedding.   That doesn’t surprise me considering the current situation and we were so lucky that my husband and didn’t get it – although lucky or not I’m not totally sure at this stage.   Maybe it’s better to get it over with unless we are so lucky that we never get it.
