さて、とうとう１２月に入りました。今朝は霜も降りていて、昼間も２度と寒かったです。
１２月はみなさん、お忙しいのでしょうね。イギリスではクリスマスが近くなると大抵の方達はお忙しく、わたしたちの年齢のお友達の皆さんはご家族とのクリスマスの準備にお忙しくなる時期で、特にお孫さんへのクリスマスプレゼント調達が大変そうです。もちろんご家庭にもよりますが、クリスマスのプレゼントは１人に１つではなく、ちょっとしたものから高価なものまでいろいろたくさんするので選ぶのも大変。お孫さんが大きくなってくるとお金になる場合も多いですが、小さなうちはやはりプレゼントをたくさんするようです。
It’s December now! There was some frost this morning and the temperature was only around 2C during the day, very cold.
I guess the majority of people are very busy this month. In England, the majority of people get very busy, our friends, who have grandchildren, are particularly busy making lists of presents to get for them. Of course not everyone does that but many people do get more than one present per person here, at least until they get older, then many people seem to give cash.
我が家はと言えば、何度か書いていますが、基本的に夫とはプレゼントはしなくて良い方向です。とは言え、何もないのは寂しいので何かしらは買いますが。他は夫の家族に気持ちだけ、という程度でお友達や家族とランチなどしてフェスティブな季節を楽しむようにはしていますが、特別忙しくはありません、それでもなんとなく周りにつられて（？）忙しいような気分になります（笑）。
As for us, like I’ve written about it a few times, my husband and I don’t do big presents like we used to do until we moved to Singapore although we tend to to do something and do some small presents to my husband’s side of families. So we aren’t particularly busy other than trying to see our friends and families to enjoy the festivity, but somehow the surroundings make us feel busy, I must say.
今日の夕食は、チキンカツでした。サルサ風のサラダと食べることが多いのですが、今日は寒いのでとんかつ風にソースでいただき、具沢山（ジャガイモ、カボチャ、キャベツ）なお味噌汁と一緒にいただきました。それにしても最近はチキンの胸肉が異常な高さで日本の３、４倍します。元々イギリスでは胸肉の方がもも肉より高くチキン全般に日本より高いのですが、最近は牛肉並みです。
Our dinner today was Chicken Katsu. I know in England it’s always related to curry but Katsu does not have anything to do with curry, it just means ‘cutlet’, which is something breaded and deep-fried (or shallow-fried). We tend to have this with a fresh salsa (salad of tomato, onion, cucumber, pepper, coriander leaves chopped small and seasoned with lemon juice and olive oil) but it’s too cold for that so we had it with Tonkatsu sauce with miso soup (potato, pumpkin & cabbage). Chicken breasts are so expensive now in England, almost as expensive as beef. Chicken has always been more expensive here than in Japan but it’s gone so much higher recently.
