今日は、夫の弟夫婦とクリスマス前のランチをしました。前回会ったのはわたしたちが日本に行く前（義弟夫婦も同じ頃アメリカに行っていました）のことなので、多分3ヶ月ぶりくらいになります。
We had Pre-Christmas lunch with my husband’s younger brother and his wife today. The last time when we got together was before we went to Japan (and they went to the US) so it’s been about 3 months.
場所は、夫が以前から行ってみたいと言っていたチディングホールドのザ・クラウンというパブ。義弟夫婦の家やロンドン方面に向かう時に途中通るところで、大きなグリーンがあって感じの良い村なので、一度そこのパブで食事がしたいと言っていたのでした。
My husband chose the place for lunch, The Crown Inn in Chiddingfold. Every time when we drive to Windsor or towards London, we go through the village of Chiddingfold, which looks very nice with a large green, and he’s been wanting to try a pub, the Crown, there for some time.
義弟と夫の前菜は、マッシュルームとポーチドエッグをのせたトースト。
To start my husband and his brother each had “Sautéed mixed mushrooms on toasted brioche, topped with a soft poached hen’s egg, watercress and truffle oil”.
義妹の前菜は、ビーツでマリネしたサーモン、クレスとケーパーとクリームフレッシュ添え。
My sister-in-law had “Beetroot cured salmon with watercress, caper and crème fraiche”.
わたしの前菜は、Nibbles (おつまみ）の中から、ソーセージの蜂蜜とマスタードソース、にしました。
I had “Honey and mustard glazed sausages” from the “Nibbles” section of the menu.
メイン。夫と義妹はシーバス、新じゃがとテンダーステムブロッコリーとサルサベルデ添え。
For the main, my husband and my sister-in-law had “Grilled Seabass on crushed new potato, with tenderstem broccoli and salsa verde”.
わたしは他にこれと思うものがなく、ビーフバーガー、これは美味しくなかった。パサついていて味もなかったです。チップスはカリカリでとても美味しかったです。
I couldn’t find anything else I felt like eating so had Beef Burger – not very good. Very dry and no flavour. Chips were excellent, though.
義弟は、フィッシュアンドチップス。
My brother-in-law had Fish & Chips.
義弟夫婦は、ダブルチョコレートブラウニー、塩キャラメルアイス添え（塩キャラメルアイスをバニラに変えてもらっていました）。
To finish my brother-in-law and his wife shared a Double chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream” (but they asked for vanilla ice cream instead of salted caramel ice cream).
わたしと夫は、レモンポセット、メレンゲ、パッションフルーツのシャーベットをシェアー。シェアーとは言え、わたしは主にシャーベットを少しだけ、他はほとんど夫。
My husband and I shared “Lemon Posset, meringue & passion fruit sorbet”. I had some passion fruit sorbet (very nice) and my husband had most.
義妹は２週間ほど前にひいた風邪がまだ治らないそうで声が枯れていました。そう言えば、わたしも一昨年、義弟夫婦とクリスマス前のランチをした時、その前にひいた風邪の咳が残っていて話をしようとすると咳が出て困ったのを思い出しました。咳って結構疲れるんですよね。早く良くなりますように。
My sister-in-law came down with a cold a couple of weeks ago and she still had husky voice and a little cough. I remember I suffered from lingering coughs when we met them for pre-Christmas lunch 2 years ago. It’s that sort of time of year, isn’t it? Hope she’ll be free of them soon.
こうして今年も無事に一緒にクリスマス前に集まれて、何よりでした。また１年、みんなが元気に暮らせますように！
It was great to be able to get together to wish each other Merry Christmas and hope everyone will be well for another year.
