今日から2泊でブリストルという街に来ています。ブリストルには大昔エクセターで英語留学していた時に1度だけお友達と来たことがありますが（４０年も前のこと）、それ以来です。夫もそれくらい前に一度来たきりだそう。わたしたちが住んでいるところからどこか国内でで旅行する時に途中で通る場所ではないので、来る機会がありませんでした。

We are spending a couple of days in Bristol. The last time I was here was when I was living in Exeter to learn English, I came here with a friend for shopping – so 40 years ago！Apparently my husband also hasn’t been here for 40 years or so. Bristol isn’t a place we would drive through when we are travelling somewhere from home, so we hadn’t had a chance to visit.

いつもは11月末頃にロンドンにクリスマスのお買い物をしに行って、クリスマスライトなど楽しんでくるのですが、今年はこれまでに増して人が多いようでインスタなどで凄い人なのを見て、人混みは苦手なのでどうしようかと迷っていました。住んでいるところは田舎で、街のクリスマスライトも大したことなく、あまりクリスマス気分を楽しめませんし、お買いものもブランド品どころかZaraさえないですし、何かしらクリスマス気分になれるところに行きたいな、と思い、ブリストルには甥っ子が2人住んでいてしばらく会っていないので一緒に食事をするのを兼ねてブリストルに来ることにしました。

We usually spend a few days in London at the end of November to do some Christmas shopping and enjoy the Christmas lights/decorations, but I have seen some Instagram stories how busy London is this year and wasn’t sure if I wanted to be in such a crowd. At the same time I still wanted to do something Christmassy because Chichester, which is the closest city to us, is so small, you don’t get to see much Christmas lights or decorations and it’s not really great for shopping. So we thought Bristol may be a good place to visit, specially because our 2 nephews are now living here. We hadn’t seen them for a while and we thought it’d be great to get together for a dinner.

ホテルは、ブリストル・マリオット・ロイヤル・ホテルにしました。駐車場があるホテルがここくらいしかなかったのです。

We are staying at Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel only because this seems to be the only hotel in the centre of town that has a parking lot.
