今日の夕食は、昨日のインド料理の残ったものをいただきました。とても美味しかったですし、十分な量でした。
Today’s dinner was yesterday’s left-over, but it was delicious and plenty.
この様に、１つのお皿にライス、カレー２、３種類、サラダやお惣菜系を数種類盛り合わせた写真を日本からのインスタでは結構見かけますし、お友達も日本のインドレストランではたくさんサラダが盛り合わせられているとおっしゃっていました。でも、イギリスのインド料理のレストランでは見たことがありませんし、旅行したときインドでも見たことがありません。もちろん、カチュンバやサブジはインドの言葉ですし存在するのですが、南インド料理のミールスのようにたくさんの小さな金属の入れ物にカレーやヨーグルトのソースやチャツネやデザートを入れたものが大きなお皿に乗って出てくるものはありますが、この様に１つのお皿に盛り合わせて出てくるのは見たことがないですし、生野菜系はあまりメニューに見かけずほんの少しだと思います。
I see this sort of presentation (rice with 2 or 3 different curries and various salads (Kachumber) and cooked side dishes (Sabzi)) often enough on Instagram posts by Japanese, and our friend told us that you get various salads/side dishes on a plate like this in many places in Japan. I’ve never seen anything like this in Indian restaurants in England or on youtube and we never saw this in India when we travelled there. Of course Kachumber and Sabzi are Indian words and they do exist and I know meals, which consists of many small metallic bowls each filled with different curries, yoghurt sauce, chutney etc, but they are quite different. I also don’t think there are a lot of salads (kachumber) on menus in Indian restaurants here.
これは、日本独特のインド料理の食べ方なのでしょうか、それとも、インドの中でもこういう食べ方もされているのでしょうか。インドは広いですし、食べ方も食べるものも様々だとは思うので、見たことがないだけかもしれませんが、見た目がカラフルで綺麗ですし、日本人は色々な味や食感を１つの食事で食べるのが好きなので、日本で生まれたものなのかもしれませんね。いずれにしても、色々な食感や味が楽しめて、わたしたちにはとても美味しかったです！でも、これだけ作ろうと思うととても時間がかかるので、なかなか自分たちでは作れそうにありません。作ってくださったお友達は、いつもインド料理をお家で作る時はこれくらいは作られるそうです。ご主人、お幸せ！
I wonder if this is Japanese way of eating Indian now (this style started relatively recently) or it’s just that I haven’t seen this in Indian restaurants in England or in India, but there are people who would present like this. It looks quite pretty and colourful and Japanese love having various tastes and textures in one meal, so it could well be a Japanese way. Anyway, we found it delicious with different textures. However, to cook this many dishes, it takes a long time so I doubt very much if we would have a meal like this ourselves. Our friend told me she always cooks this much when she cooks Indian at home. Lucky husband!
