今回ロンドンに来た目的は、日本領事館で在留証明を貰うこと、でした。昔、お友達が海外に住んでいても年金は貰えるらしいとおっしゃっていたのを覚えていますが、それほど長く働かなかったので大して貰えないだろうとあまり気に留めていませんでした。最近になってたまたま妹と年金の話になり、妹がわざわざに相談に行ってくれて、思っていたより貰えるらしい、ということになり、妹が代理申請してくれることになったので、申請に必要な在留証明を貰いにきました。（こういうことって結構面倒な手続きなので、してくれている妹に感謝です。）香港もシンガポールも凄く小さな国なので日本大使館にすぐ行けてこういう申請もパスポートの更新も簡単だったのですが、イギリスはロンドンまで来なくてはいけないので結構大変。もちろん、電車で日帰りということも出来ますが、せっかく来るなら、ということになり、いつもクリスマスの少し前に来るのを早めて来ることにしました。（去年は、クリスマス前は来なかったのですが。）

The reason why we are in London is because I needed to get a proof of residence from the Japan Embassy. A long long time ago, I remember one of my friends did tell me that you can get a “pension” even when you don’t live in Japan, but I didn’t think of it much because I didn’t work for long and thought it would be a minute amount of money even if I could. However, when I was chatting online with my sister, we talked about pensions and she said she would find it out for me. She went to see someone in charge and found out I could get my pension – and it would be more than I thought – and she can apply for it on my behalf. I need this proof of residence in the UK as part of the application. When we were living in Hong Kong and Singapore it was so easy to get things like this or renewing passport because they were both very small countries and I only had to take a short taxi ride to Japan Embassy. Here, we have to come to London, which isn’t such an easy thing to do. Of course, we could have taken a train, get it, then go back in a day, but we felt we could take the opportunity to stay and do some shopping & eating and came earlier than usual for our pre-Christmas trip. (We didn’t come before Christmas last year, though.)

ということで、今朝、日本領事館で在留証明を貰いました。色々必要書類があって、こういう証明を貰うとき、ちゃんと書類が揃っているのか、用意した書類で大丈夫なのか、など緊張します。特にロンドンまで来るとなると、間違っていたり足りなかったら、「じゃあ、明日来ます」という訳にいかないので。問題なく貰えてホッとしました。

So, we went to the Japanese Embassy and got what I needed this morning. There are some required documents you need to show, so I was a little nervous if they were the right sort and were enough. As we have to come all the way to London, if there is some mistake, I cannot say “OK, I’ll come tomorrow, then.” I am relieved to report that all went well.

早めに予約を取っていたのでランチまで結構時間があったため、ランチ場所までボンドストリートのブランド店をあちらこちら覗きながらゆっくりと向かいました。ランチの場所は、ロンドンに来ると必ず行く、インド料理の「Dishoom」。夜は予約ができないので、いつもランチに行っています。

I made the appointment at the Embassy quite early so there was quite a lot of time before lunch, so we walked slowly going into the various shops on Bond Street, then we had lunch at “Dishoom”, where we always go when we are in London. They don’t accept reservations for dinner so we always go for lunch when you can book a table.

今日の夜はしっかりディナーなので、ランチは軽めに。

We are going to be having a big dinner this evening, so we tried not to eat too much at lunch.

必ずオーダーする野菜のサモサ。

これも夫が好きなので必ずオーダーする、チキンカレー。いつもの味。

Chicken curry, again we always order this because it’s my husband’s favourite.

いつもオーダーするブロッコリーとチリのサラダがなくなっていたので（最近、メニューが変わっています）、チキンとマンゴーとブロッコリーのサラダをオーダーしてみましたが、これも美味しかったです。

They didn’t have the Broccoli & Chilli Salad, which we have been ordering every time we go there (their menu changed recently), so we tried Chicken, Mango & Broccoli salad. It was also very good.

ランチの後、いくつかのお店を覗いて、デパートを覗いて（ちょっと大きなものを買ってもらいました）、マークス＆スペンサーズを覗いて。。。早めの時間にホテルに戻り、ほてるのロビー近くにあるライブラリーでお茶とコーヒー（宿泊者だけ利用可能）をいただきました。

After lunch, we went in a few shops including Selfridges (I got something special, yay!), Marks & Spencer’s etc then got back to the hotel and had tea / coffee at their Library near the lobby (residents only).
