今日は午後３時からフランス菓子教室があって長時間のときには片付けが終わると７時ごろになってしまうので、夕食を作るのが面倒になり、外食しました。チチェスターの Brasserie Blanc からメインをオーダーすれば25%引きというクーポンが来ていたので、久しぶりに Brasserie Blanc に行きました。一時期割とよく行っていたのですが、メニューがほとんど変わらないので最近は余り行かなくなりました。この辺りにあるレストランはほとんどメニューが変わらないところが多く、何年も行っているとすっかり飽きてしまいます。一応季節ごとに変わることにはなっていて、3ヶ月に１度、ほんの一部が変わるのですが、日本のように季節感をそれほど大切にする習慣がないのでほぼ一年中メニューが変わりません。

I had a French baking class this afternoon from 3:00pm and if the class is a long one it can be around 7:00pm by the time I finish washing up, so I didn’t feel like cooking dinner and booked a table at “Brasserie Blanc” in Chichester – especially since we had a coupon that gives us 25% discount on main dishes.  We hadn’t been there for quite a while.  We used to go there often enough but their menu hardly changes just like many other restaurants around here, and we got a bit tired of them.  They claim they change their menu every 3 months by season but the change is only a few items, they are basically the same all year around.  Seasonality isn’t that important here, I feel, unlike in Japan.

今日は予報通りに寒くなって昼間でも５、６度で夜はもっと寒かったので、駐車場からすぐですがしっかりと着込んで行きました。

As forecasted, it got quite cold today, it was 5C or 6C highest during the day so by the evening it was even colder.  It’s very close from the car park to the restaurant but we did make sure we were warmly dressed.

２５％割引クーポンのお陰か、週の半ばですがそこそこ人が入っていました。すぐお隣の Caluccio はわたしたちが食事を終えて前を通ったときに覗いたらお客さんは一人もいなかったので、やはりこういうクーポンは有効ですね。

I guess thanks to the 25% discount coupon, many tables were occupied considering it’s only the middle of the week.  We looked into Carluccio’s next door when we finished our dinner and saw nobody inside.  These coupons are obviously very effective.

 

夫は、大好きなエスカルゴ、美味しいと言っていました。

To start my husband had Escargots, which is one of his favourite dishes and he enjoyed it.

わたしは、ビーツ。まぁ、こんなものかな、という感じですが、本当にビーツだけ。せめて、ナッツでも散らしてくれると少しは変化がつくのですが。あ、白っぽいのはホースラディッシュのソルベ、すごく強い味で、ちょっと too much だと思いました。

I had the Beets starter.  It was really just beets, I wish they sprinkled some nuts or seeds or something to make it a little more interesting.  Oh, they did put something else, horseradish sorbet.  It was very ‘horseradish’, very strongly so.  Too strong for me.

 

夫のメイン、鹿肉。まぁまぁかな、とのこと。まずいとは言わないけれど、鹿肉に鹿肉らしい旨みがないので、余り美味しいとも言えないとのことでした。

My husband’s main was venison.  So-so.  He said it wasn’t bad but not great either because the venison didn’t have much flavour.

 

わたしはメインにこれと思うものがなくて、本当なら前菜を２つオーダーしたいところでしたが、メインをオーダーしないと割引が効かないのでバーガーにしました。これもまぁまぁ、です。ビーフの甘みは特にないけれど臭みもないので食べられる、という感じ。チップスは美味しい。

I couldn’t find anything I fancied in their main menu.  I would have ordered 2 starters but we wouldn’t have got the discount without a main dish each so I had Beef Burger, which was OK.  Just like my husband’s venison, the beef didn’t have much flavour but it wasn’t gamy so I was able to eat it.  Their chips are always good.

 

 

今日はお菓子教室で焼いたケーキを食後にいただく予定だったので、ここではデザートはいただきませんでした。食後のお茶もいただかず、赤ワインをカラフで（グラス２杯とオーダーしようとしたら、カラフも同じおねだですよと言われたのでカラフにしました）いただいて、ガス入りのお水１本、２５％引きで70ポンドほど（１３７００円）でした。

We were going to have one of the cakes that I baked at the French Baking class at home after dinner, so we didn’t have any dessert here.  No tea or coffee after the meal, a carafe of red wine (we were going to order 2 glasses of wine but were told a carafe is the same price), and one bottle of sparkling wine. With the 25% discount, it was about £70.
