昨日の夕食は、The Robin Hood というパブのポップアップで評判が良い「The Hanoi Social」のベトナム風サンドイッチ（バインミー）が食べられるというので行ってみました。

Last night, we went to “The Robin Hood” in Bristol because I read that they have a pop up restaurant “The Hanoi Social“, which serves Vietnamese sandwiches, which seem to be very popular at the moment.

なのですが。。。パブがホテルから離れていたのでウーバーを呼んで行ったのですが、タクシーから出る時にわたしが電話を足元に落としてしまったのでした。パブに着いてすぐに気づいて夫が運転手さんと連絡をとってくれて、持って来てくれるということにはなったのですが、夫が電話の場所を追跡していたところほとんど動かないのです。１０分経っても２０分経っても動かない。途中、少しだけ動いてまた止まって動かない。なかなか向かって来ないので、もう一度連絡を取ろうとしたけれど繋がらない。そして、最初に連絡が取れてから３０分以上経ってやっとまた連絡が取れて、こっちからそっちに向かった方が良ければそうするけど、手持ちの現金35ポンド渡すからとにかく電話を手元に戻してほしいと伝えたところ、やっと持って来てくれました。

However, there was an accident before we had it.  We called an Uber to get there as it wasn’t very near the hotel and when we got there I seem to have dropped my phone in the car before we got out.  I realised it almost as soon as we got into the pub and my husband contacted the driver and he told him he would bring it.  My husband was tracking where my phone was but it didn’t move much.  At one point it moved some but then stopped and wouldn’t move for more than 20 minutes.  My husband tried to contact him again but he couldn’t get to him, so we waited further.  The position of my phone didn’t move for 10 more minutes.  My husband phoned again and was able to talk to him so he asked if we should come to him to get the phone and he also offered £35 (all the cash we had).  The driver told him he would come to us in 10 minutes or so and he did.

幸いウーバーだったので運転手さんの名前などがはっきりとわかっていたので、手元に届かないということにはならなかったとはは思うのですが、運転手さんの英語がわかりにくかったこともあり、意思の疎通も今ひとつ十分には出来ず、なぜこちらにすぐに向かって来てくれないのかがわからなかったので不安でした。わたしたちが乗ったときに、もう今日は仕事を終わりにするつもりだったと言われていたこともあり、もしかすると家に帰ってしまわれた可能性もありましたし、その日に持って来てもらえないのではないかと不安でした。とにかく、当日戻って来て良かったです！

Although my husband had the name and contact number as it was an Uber drive, his English was a bit difficult to understand and he didn’t understand what he was saying exactly, so when the position of my phone didn’t move so long we were very stressed if he would come over in a short time.  The driver was saying he was going to take a break before he took our ride so we worried he may have gone home and wasn’t going to come out that evening.  Since we were coming home from Bristol today, it would have been a problem.  It was really stressful.  Anyway, I was so relieved that we got it back by the end of the day.

パブではチキンのバインミーをいただきましたが、状況的にストレスフルだったこととは無関係に、正直なところ、わたしにはあまりおいしくなかったです。というのは、すごくすごく塩辛くて、そしてたぶんニョクマムたっぷりなので魚臭くて。。。バインミーの中になますのようなものを入れますが、それは普通は甘酸っぱい味付けになっているものなのですが、甘さは感じられず酸味も余りなく、とにかくしょっぱい。そして、すごく大きいのでとても食べにくかったです。

So I have to say we weren’t able to enjoy the food in a relaxed way.  However, I have to say I didn’t enjoy it regardless of the situation because it was way too salty for me.  As I’m guessing they used a lot of fish sauce it also tasted too fishy for me.  There is what some people call Asian slaw, which usually tastes sweet, sour and a little salty but it was only salty (and fishy), I couldn’t detect any sweetness and not so much sourness either.  To me it didn’t taste as it should.  Also it was so huge that it was very hard to eat.
