今日も寒いですがお天気が良いので、それほど寒くは感じませんでした。今日は、チチェスターの「Purchases」でランチをしました。そろそろ外食したいなと思っていたところ、今月はコースメニューをオーダーすると２０％のディスカウントがあるというメールが来たので、Purchases にしました。

It is still cold but it didn’t feel so bad because of the sun, the sky is blue and looks lovely.  We went to “Purchases” in Chichester for lunch.  I was thinking I felt like going out for a meal then received an email from them offering 20% discount on their course menu so we decided to go there today.

夫に前菜は、ビーツとゴートチーズのサラダ。わたしが前回オーダーした前菜です。

For a starter, my husband ordered Beets & Goat Cheese Salad.  It’s what I had for a starter last time when we were here.

わたしは、ココナッツの衣の海老のフライ、チリジャムとアジア風コールスロー添え、をオーダーしてみました。シーフードで食べられるのは海老だけで、海老は新鮮なものであれば調理法やソースによっては美味しくいただけるのでオーダーしてみたのでしたが、臭くてだめでした（涙）。ということで、夫とかえっこしてもらいました。ココナッツの風味はほとんど感じられず、海老は硬くて臭くてとても残念。

I ordered Coconut crusted tiger prawns with Asian Cole Slaw & Chilli Jam.  Prawns are the only seafood I can eat and I actually enjoy them if they are fresh and cooked in certain ways so I thought I would enjoy them but no…  sadly they were very strongly fishy and also quite hard, not good texture.  As I wasn’t able to eat them my husband kindly swapped with his.

My husband had Sea Bass for the main.

わたしは、バターナッツスクウォッシュのアランチーニ。前回来た時にオーダーしたもの。メニューが変わっていなかった。

I had Butternut squash arancini.  Same one as what I had last time because the menu hadn’t changed much if any since then.

ビーツとゴートチーズのサラダのゴートチーズの量が多く、ペストの味も濃くてサラダだけでは食べられなかったので、パンもオーダーしました。以前はパンもコースについてきましたし、アラカルトをオーダーしても出て来ましたが今日は出て来ず、メニューの最初にパンのお値段が書かれていたので無料で出さなくなったのだな、と思っていました。写真を撮り忘れましたが、薄い薄いパンが６枚くらいあったでしょうか、それで4ポンド５０（８７４円）もします。日本だと6ポンドあれば美味しいパン付きのランチが食べられますが。。。

My beets & goat cheese salad had 6 very thin slices of beet, the rest was goat cheese and pesto.  I find it difficult to eat strong tasting things like goat cheese and pesto on their own so ordered bread.  They used to serve complimentary bread but they didn’t today and the bread was listed on top of their menu so we figured they stopped serving it as complimentary.  I forgot to take a photo of the bread but I think we had about 6 slices of very very thinly sliced bread (not warm) and it was £4.50.  In Japan, £6 would be enough to have a lunch set with bread and coffee.

夫がグラスワインを１杯（10.45ポンド、２０３０円）オーダーし、ガス入りのお水を１本オーダーしましたが、今日はデザートは頂かず、食後の飲み物もいただかず、20%のディスカウントをしていただいて70ポンド（１３６００円）。２０％のディスカウントがあってそれって高くない？と夫にいうと、ワインが高かったからかな、とのこと。それにしても高いと思う、値上げしたんじゃない？と調べてみると、やはり２コースで21.95ポンド（４２７５円）だったのが27.50ポンド（５３４４円）と25%も値上げしていました。通りで。それで、１月だけディスカウントのオファーをされているんですね。

My husband had a glass of wine (£10.45) and we shared a bottle of sparkling water, but we didn’t have dessert and didn’t have tea or coffee, and it was £70 after the 20% discount.  I said to my husband that that seems very expensive even after the discount and he said maybe it was because his wine was expensive.  Even so, I thought it seemed a lot, I told him I wondered if they put the prices of the course menu up and he found an older receipt – it was £21.95 for 2 courses from the set menu before, and £27.50 today!  So they put the price up by 25%.  No wonder!  I guess that is why they are offering 20% discount in January.

このレストランはこの辺りではお料理のクオリティーが高い割にはお値段が他に比べてお安い、というのもわたしたちが良く行く理由でしたが、このお値段だとそのメリットはなくなります。お料理は（あくまでもこの辺りのレストランに比べて）美味しいと思いますがメニューはほとんど変わらず、品数も少ないので、お値段のメリットがなくなってしまったとなると今までのように頻繁には行かなくなると思います。とはいえ、じゃあどこに、となると困るのですが。

This restaurant’s cooking is one of the highest levels around here (the level of restaurants in the local countryside is pretty bad) and the prices are more reasonable than others, that was one of the major reasons why we eat here often.  However, now that it’s as expensive as others, I don’t feel we’ll go there so often.  Their menu doesn’t change much and there aren’t many choices.  Then were do we go?  I don’t know…  It is rather depressing when you think of the options.
