昨日のクルーズ12日目は、トルコのクシャダシという港に寄港して、ツアーでエファソスの遺跡を歩いたのですが、昨日はお天気が良すぎる程よく、予報より気温も上がって24度くらいになり、日陰が少ないところでカンカン照りの中で2時間歩いて汗だくで、しかも足元が悪くツルツルと滑る大理石の上を歩く時間が長かったこともありクタクタになり、ブログをする元気もなく早く寝てしまいました。普段、疲れたと感じることは余りないので、翌日のツアーに参加できるかしらと思うくらいでした。一昨日も暑い中の街歩きツアーで疲れていたので余計疲れたのだと思います。たっぷり寝て、今日は元気復活。
Yesterday was day 12 of the cruise and we were at the port of Kusadasi in Turkey. We visited the ruins of Ephesus on an excursion in the afternoon, but the weather was too good, it went up to 24C, no cloud and the ruins area doesn’t have lot of shade so I was exhausted after walking for 2 hours under the hot and strong sun, the ground was very uneven and the original marble parts were extremely slippery. I was so tired that I just couldn’t do the blog and went to sleep soon after our dinner. I don’t normally feel this tired so I was even worried if I would be able to go on another excursion here today, but after a good night’s sleep I was fine.
昨日わたしたちが申し込んでいたツアーは午後からだったのですが、朝時間があり、港があるクシャダシの街の評判がYouTubeなどでとても良かったのでランチの前に歩いてみました。小さい港にわたしたちの船を含めて３船停泊していました。
The excursion we took was in the afternoon and we had enough time to go out and walk in the town of Kusadasi, so we decided to do that before an early lunch since I saw a lot of people saying how lovely Kusadasi is. There were 3 ships in the port including ours (the closest), so about 5,000 passengers arriving all at once.
港を出たところからすでにお土産屋さんがずらり。街の中もどこもお土産屋さんや「本物の偽物」と書かれたブランドの偽物の時計やバッグや靴や洋服屋さん、カーペット屋さんなどがずらずらと並んでいました。カフェやレストランもありましたが、特に街並みが素敵ということではなく、私たちには興味のないお店ばかりだったのでざっと歩いて船に戻り、早めのランチをしました。
Right from the port exit there were so many shops on the route to the town where they sell things like “genuine fake” watches, bags, shoes, clothes, as well as souvenirs, carpets etc. There were some cafes and restaurants as well but the shops weren’t selling what we wanted and the town itself didn’t look particularly pretty or anything so we just walked along quickly and went back to the ship.
ランチは、いつものようにビュッフェ・レストランでいつものようにサンドイッチとサラダをいただきました。サモサを見つけて喜んだのですが、全然美味しくなかったです。このレストランのパンは結構美味しくて、このサンドイッチに使われているフランスパンも少し硬くて噛み切りにくかったのですが味は美味しかったです。
After that we had lunch at the World Cafe as usual. The sandwich was very nice, I find the bread in this restaurant is quite nice. We also found samosas, which excited us, but it wasn’t nice at all, no spice, no flavour. Still, the sandwich was nice .
最初に書いたように、昨日はツアーで暑い中、エファソスの遺跡を歩きました。地層には何重にも古代の街が残されており、これまでに発掘されているのは全体の20%程度とのことですが、ポンペイの遺跡より広いそうです。ガイドさんはずっと説明を続けて下さるのですが、ギリシャの古代の名前が覚えられるはずもなく（笑）何が何やら、ですが、圧倒されるほど素晴らしいことは確か。
Like I wrote first, we took an excursion to visit the ruins of Ephesus. There are many layers of different towns under the ground and apparently so far only 20% of that has been excavated and it’s already larger than the ruin of Pompei. The guide was talking for the whole time through the ear piece giving us lots and lots of facts and stories but not much of it is in my head, there is no way I can remember all those Greek/Roman names! But it was very impressive.
2時間ほど遺跡を歩いて、クシャダシの街までバスで戻り、その後街にあるカーペット屋さんで20分ほど飲み物を飲みながらカーペットのデモンストレーションとトークがあるとのことでカーペット屋さんの前で降ろされたのですが、わたしたちはお店に入らず、そのまま街にあるカフェで冷たいものを飲んで休憩してから船に4時半ごろ戻りました。わたしたちが乗っているバイキングの船は買い物を促すようなことはないのですが、このクシャダシでのカーペットだけは別のようで、トルコ政府との提携で連れて行かれるようです。他のお店に比べてお値段がお手頃でぼられるようなことがないそうですし、強制的に買わされることもないのでカーペットに興味があれば行って見るのも良いと思いますが、わたしたちは全く興味がないので逃げました（笑）。
After walking in the ruins for about 2 hours, we were taken back to the town of Kusadasi and dropped off in front of a carpet shop, where they said you can have some drinks and see a demonstration of carpet making and listen to the owner’s talk, but we escaped and went to a cafe to have a cold drink and have a rest before getting back on the ship around 4:30. Viking tours doesn’t usually take you to shops like this, but apparently Kusadasi is an exception (or maybe Turkey is an exception, I’m not sure), the government of Turkey and Viking have some kind of agreement for Viking to take them to the shop. What I gather is that they don’t make it uncomfortable not to buy any and the prices offered are better than in other places, so if you are interested in carpets it may not be a bad thing to go along, but we have no interest in carpets at all so we escaped.
くたくたになって船に戻ったのは、4時半ごろだったでしょうか。しばらくいつものようにエクスプローラ・ラウンジで本を読んだりしてのんびりと過ごし、夕食はビュッフェ・レストランで夫は豆の煮込み、わたしはポーク・ビンダルー（カレー）をいただき、写真はありませんがまだお腹が空いていたのでピザを1切れずついただきました。どれも、余り美味しくなかったです。
I guess it was around 4:30pm when we got back on the ship feeling very tired. As usual we spent a couple of hours in the Explorer’s Lounge, had a little rest in the room, then had dinner in the World Cafe. My husband had bean stew, I had Pork Vindaloo, then a piece of pizza each as we were still hungry. Not a great dinner…
