今日は、ソールズベリーという街で夫の家族とランチに集まりました。渋滞がなければ我が家から車で１時間ちょっとなのですが、今日は土曜日で渋滞が酷かったので２時間かかりました。駐車場に困るかもしれないと思い、以前も使ったことがあるアプリで夫が普通のお家の駐車場を時間で貸しているところを予約していました。結果的には近くの駐車場が空いていましたが、その時によって色々だと思うので予約しておいた方が気分的に楽でした。

We went to Salisbury to have lunch with my husband’s family today.  If the traffic isn’t bad it takes only an hour and a little but the traffic was pretty bad today being a Saturday and it took us 2 hours.  My husband booked a private car parking space at through a phone app thinking we may have trouble with finding one right in the city.  It looked like there was a big car park with spaces available quite near the lunch place but you just never know so we feel better knowing we don’t have to look for one.  The cafe (Boston Tea Party) where we met the others was about 10 minutes’ walk or so from where we parked.

ランチは、「ボストン・ティーパーティー」というチェーンのカフェ、車を停めたところから、１０分ちょっとくらいのところでした。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

今回集まったのは、夫の兄とパートナーと２人の息子、弟夫婦と２人の息子、奥さん、赤ちゃん（9ヶ月）と全員で９人と赤ちゃんという大人数でした。多分、これだけ一緒に集まれたのは多分初めて。弟夫婦の娘が参加できなくて残念でした。

So, we met my husband’s elder brother, his partner, their son, my husband’s younger brother, his wife, their son, their son’s wife and the grandchild (9 months old).  It was the first time, I think, that we met all of them together – sadly our niece (my husband’s younger brother’s daughter) wasn’t able to make it.

 

 

夫は、オールデー・イングリッシュブレックファースト。あまり美味しくなかったらしいです。

My husband had All Day English Breakfast, but said it wasn’t very good.

 

わたしは、フラットブレッドにのせたカリフラワーのシャワーマ（シャワルマ）。これが、結構美味しかったです。チチェスターにもボストン・ティーパーティーがあってイギリスに越して来た頃何度か行ったのですが、何を食べても美味しくなくて行かなくなりました。なので全く期待していなかったのですが、これは美味しかった！

I had Cauliflower Shawarma on flat bread, which was surprisingly good.  There is a Boston Tea Party in Chichester as well and we’d been there a few times soon after we moved to England but we didn’t have any good food there so we gave up and stopped going.  So I wasn’t expecting it to be good but it was.

 

 

 

これだけの人数になるとなかなかみんなとゆっくり話すことは出来ないですが、たまには大人数で集まるのも良いですし、久しぶりに赤ちゃんにも会えて良かったです。前回赤ちゃんに会ったのはクリスマスの前で、それが初めてでした、その時はまだ3ヶ月くらいだったのでまだまだ小さな赤ちゃんでしたが、もうすっかり人間らしくなってました（笑）。とは言え、時々写真やビデオで見ているので、すごく大きくなってびっくりする、ということはなかったです。昔と違って今は携帯で「今」の誰かに会えますもんね。

When there are so many people you just cannot have a real catch up with anyone properly but it is sometimes nice to have a large group of families together.  It was lovely to see the baby, who is now 9 months old and looking more human (haha) than just a tiny baby (as when we saw her before Christmas for the first time).  Having said that, as we see photos or videos of her now and again, it wasn’t a huge surprise to see how she had grown.  These days, unlike 30 years ago, we can see people on the phone easily so you can be up-to-date without actually meeting them.
