アップルドアに到着した翌日の日曜日は、車で45分のところにあるバギー・ポイントというところまで行きました。サーフィンに適しているビーチで有名だそうです。
On the day after we arrived in Appledore, it was a Sunday and we drove to Baggy Point, which was about 45 minutes by car from us. Apparently it’s one of the best places in the area for surfing.
借りている家の近くにあるこの橋からの景色がとても良いのですが、橋のバリアがあるので車の中から写真を撮っても綺麗さが伝わらず残念。
The view from this bridge, which is near the house we are renting, is beautiful but the photos will not show it becaue of the barrier of the bridge.
ナビが選んだ道を走っていると、途中からデボンにありがちなすごく狭い道に入ってしまいました。車が1台ギリギリ通れる幅で対向車が来るとどちらかが所々にある少し広くなっているところに車を入れてすれ違うのですが、これがかなりなストレスです。15分くらいそんな道を走って、やっと広めの道に出ました。帰りは、この道を通らずに帰りましたが、ナビの設定にこういう道を選ばない選択を探しても見つからないそうです。
We were drving towards Baggy Point following the roads that the SatNav was suggesting and we ended up getting into a very narrow wiggly road – these are very common in Devon. The road is just wide enough for a car to drive in so you need to get into one of the wider parts if you see a car coming the other way and it’s quite stressful to drive such roads. After driving about 15 minutes or so like this, we finally got onto a winder road. We managed to drive back home on wider roads to get back to the house, though. My husband tells me he cannot find a setting on the SatNav that avoids narrow single-track roads.
バギー・ポイントに着いたのはちょうどお昼時だったので、カフェでランチをしました。カフェのお庭にアロトメントがあって、ご家族でお野菜の収穫をしたりお水をあげたりされていて、お野菜を売っているところもありました。
We arrived in Baggy Point around lunch time so we had lunch at a Cafe. Their garden is used for some allotments and we saw a family getting some vegetables and watering their allotment. There was a table with vegetables on sale, too.
夫は、プラウマンズ、わたしはカリフラワーカレーのパスティ。
My husband had Ploughman’s and I had Cauliflower Curry Pasty.
土曜日に引き続き、この日もとても暑い日で、景色の良いお散歩道があったのですが往復1時間半と書かれていたので、日傘をさしても暑すぎて無理！ということで歩くのは諦めて、少しだけ歩いてからアップルドアに戻りました。とても素晴らしい景色だったので、残念でした。
Just like the day before, it was very sunny and hot. We wanted to walk to the point but that would have taken us an hour an a half round trip and it was much too hot for me to walk even with a parasol; a shame since the view would have been amazing.
