水曜日は、アップルドアから近いところにある Hartland Abbey に行きました。この日は甥っ子は家に残ってお仕事をしていたのですが、義弟夫婦、甥っ子の奥さん（と赤ちゃん）、姪っ子と一緒にお出かけ。お天気は曇ったり、晴れたり、だったと思います。気温は多分２０度くらいだったのですが、結構蒸し暑く、少し歩くと汗をかく気候でした。海沿いのせいか、アップルドアに滞在中はずっと蒸し暑く感じました。

On Wednesday, we visited Hartland Abbey, which was about 30 minutes from Appledore.  Our nephew was working in the house but the rest of us all went out together.  I think the weather was changeable, sometimes very cloudy, sometimes very sunny.  Although the temperature wasn’t very high (about 20C) it was still quite humid and I got quite hot when we walked.  I guess because it’s near the sea, it felt very humid for the whole week when we were staying in Appledore.

 

 

まずは、森の中を歩いて海まで出ました、片道３０分くらいでした。下に見える小屋は、２００８年に英国で放映された３部作のジェーン・オースティンの「いつか晴れた日に」(Sense & Sensibility)の撮影に使われた小屋。それに刺激されて、翌日と翌々日はみんなで一緒に夕食の後で、そのドラマを見て、戻ってきてから最後の１部を家で見ました。

First we walked through the woods to the sea, about 30 minutes one way.  This little cottage right by the sea was used for filming a BBC adaptation of Jane Austen’s ‘Sense and Sensibility’ in 2008.  Because of seeing the cottage we started watching the drama on TV after dinner on the following day – we watched part 1 and part 2 there, and the final part 3 at home on the day we got back.

 

とっても綺麗な景色でした。

It was beautiful, very dramatic.

 

 

 

 

元のところまで戻って、カフェでランチ。

We walked back to where we started and had a quick lunch.

 

 

 

 

 

ランチの後は、お庭を散策。お庭への道には様々な紫陽花が咲いていて（特に鮮やかなブルーの紫陽花が綺麗でした）、お庭にはたくさんのお花が咲き乱れて綺麗でした。

Then walked to the gardens – we saw a lot of different hydrangeas on the way, the very bright blue ones were particularly beautiful.  The gardens looked amazing with so many different flowers, too.
