今日はいよいよ大晦日、日本はすでに日付が変わって元旦ですね。みなさま、大晦日はどのように過ごされたのでしょうか。インスタなど見ていると今でもみなさん、年末の大掃除をされている方が多いみたいですね。我が家は日本では多少はしていましたが（ほんのちょっと）、日本を出てからほとんどしなくなりました。
It’s New Year’s Eve today! (Japan is already in the New Year.) I wonder how people spent their New Year’s Eve. Looking at Instagarm, people in Japan do still seem to have a very thorough clean up of their home that we’ve always done in the last one week or so in December – although I must say I never did that properly,’specially after leaving Japan.
早く植えなきゃと思っていたチューリップ、なかなか時間のある日とお天気の都合が合わず、今日やっと植えました。イギリスでは１１月に植える方が多いようですが、お花に詳しい方達はみなさん、ぐんと寒くなってからにしましょう、とおっしゃっていて、１２月が良いようです。１月初めでも大丈夫と聞きますし、実際、１月に植えたことも何度かあったはず、毎年ちゃんと咲いてくれます。
We’ve been saying we must plant our tulip bulbs but we haven’t had time when the weather was good but we finally did today. I think many people plant them in November in England but we’ve always planted them in December or January because I see the professionals in England saying you should wait until it turns very cold, which tends to happen in later in December. We’ve never had problems with them even when we planted them in early January, they’ve always flowered.
毎回そうなのですが、十分買ったつもりだったコンポストが足りなくて夫がまた買いに出てくれたので、待っている間にずっと気になっていた雑草抜きなど頑張りました。チューリップを植えた時間と合わせると３時間近く。疲れました！
This happens almost every time but we didn’t have enough compost so my husband went to a garden center again today after we planted 5 pots and I did weeding etc while I was waiting for him to come back with the extra compost and ended up doing gardening for almost 3 hours! I bet my body will know all about it tomorrow.
イギリスは、クリスマス前からぐんと寒くなり、今週と来週は更に寒くなっていて、この辺りも雪が降るかもとのこと。明日から数日はマイナス３度、マイナス４度まで下がる予報になっています。ブル、ブル、ブル。今日も気温は低いのですがお天気が良かったので、ガーデニングをしている間寒くは感じませんでした。
It got colder a little before Christmas and has been even colder this week. It is expected to get even colder from tomorrow and apparently we may have snow. The temperature is expected to go down to as low as minus 3 or 4! It was cold today, too, but quite sunny so I didn’t feel cold while we were doing the gardening.
さて、今日は大晦日ということで、夕食は行正り香さんのレシピでビーフのグーラッシュ（人参追加）にしました。添え野菜はインゲンとじゃがいも。じゃがいもは別に茹でて粉吹き芋にして添えてグーラッシュのソースをかけました。夫は、前菜にスモークサーモン。
So, as it’s New Year’s Even, we cooked “Beef Goulash” from a recipe of a Japanese lady (but I added carrots). We had it with some green beans and potatoes (I boiled the potatoes separately but poured some goulash sauce over). My husband also had Smoked Salmon as a starter.
先日クリスマスディナーを作ったときに使うのを忘れたので、今日、クリスマスクラッカーを使いました。
We forgot to use our Christmas Crackers on the day when we cooked Christmas Dinner, so we used them today.
ピンクシャンパンのハーフボトルを最初にいただいて（残りは年が明けた瞬間の乾杯用に）から、赤ワイン。
We first had some pink champagne (but kept some for later to have when the date changes) then had a red Bordeaux.
そして、クリスマスディナーを作った時にお腹いっぱいで食べられなかったクリスマスプディングも。ほとんど夫しか食べないので、今年は１人分の小さなのを買いました。（私もほんの少しいただきました。）スティッキー・トフィー・プディングのジェラートと。写真を撮り忘れましたが、チーズもいただきました。
My husband also had Christmas Pudding as a dessert with Sticky Toffee Pudding Gelato because he was too full to have it on the day when we cooked Christmas dinner. We bought a very small individual Christmas Pudding this year because I have only a tiny bit of it. I forgot to take a photo but we also had some cheese.
ついでに、お花もアップ。マークス＆スペンサーでオーダーした、フラワーアーティストさんが選ばれたお花のブーケ。アマリリスが３本入っていて、綺麗に咲きました。アマリリスは白が好き。
This bouquet of flowers is what I ordered from Marks & Spencer’s, the flowers are apparently chosen by a flower artist. There are 2 amaryllis, which are fully opened now. I love white amaryllis (but not red ones).
ポインセチアは、クリスマスに泊まっていた Gidleigh Park からのクリスマスプレゼントの１つ。
The poinsettia is one of the Christmas presents from Gidleigh Park, where we stayed over Christmas.
